I think I would rather take the last update and dismiss the warning.

Hi Pete. The update that "infected" W7 was the one from November. To skip completely from seeing the notification you can disable the tasks that generate the screen as suggested by Emmjay in the post below. I done those changes already.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...r-windows-7-and-8.387895/page-36#post-2881033

Regarding the last W7 update, likely I am going to skip it as I wont update the computer by tomorrow's end.

    thank you mood.

I presume this is the last sec update for w7. what about IE on w7?

Will the autoupdate, or in my case WUMT, continue to function for all the old updates when installing win7 that doesn't have all the updates or is this going offline as well?

    thanks.

As a follow up it doesn't matter. I just booted a VM with Windows 7 that has not yet had yesterday's updates and I still got this screen. I clicked the Do not notify me again link and hopefully that is the end of it.

If you are clean installing the original Windows 7 (pre SP1, not sure about integrated SP1) it already can't connect to Windows update because of TLS changes made since the original release. I had to deal with that a few months ago. I don't even remember how I worked around it at the time.l It was not a simple process.

I have a win7 pro with SP1 + alot of updates installation image/disk. It doesn't have maybe last years updates. But I regularly download and save sec updates + IE updates that mood posts here. I was just curious if the official autoupdate or WUMT will continue to work.

If past experience is an indicator it will probably be online for a while. I was surprised by how long I was able to still update Windows 95 on a reinstall after the fact.

Yup, home environment = fine. Work environment = you need to follow whatever rules/regulations apply to your line of business.

Windows Update still works on Vista and as far as I know, on XP too. However with Vista there are some updates you need to install manually, so it doesn't just spend hours stuck on Checking for updates. Microsoft fixed update issues with Windows 7, but not Vista.

There are several IT web media outlets that have stated that the monthly rollup, KB4534310 for W7 and the SO, KB4534314 are producing a black background on the desktop. Feedback will be the arbiter. Please let us know what each of you experience.

NB: If you did not stretch the wallpaper picture, you will not experience the black background.

    Ref: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/bork-tuesday-any-problems-yet.370217/page-232#post-2889083

Edit 1: If you upgraded to W10 from W7 and you had stretched your wallpaper way back in its W7 days, then it is unclear at this time if the problem is carried over to W10. If that were the case, then the W7 January updates are not the root cause. There is also speculation that the activation servers are the cause of the problem, but there is no official response from MS at this time.

Edit 2: Microsoft has issued an official response 1/24/20
MS does not specify what caused the problem.
    - Only ESU clients will receive an official fix via windows update, however a workaround is supplied by MS for those who do not qualify for ESU; see attached link ...
