Clear Linux is an interesting project, more so for me since they introduced the desktop version. I’m no fan of Gnome which is just as well considering the traumas of getting Shell extensions to install and work. The KDE desktop bundle however performs as expected and with minimal effort it’s possible to get a useful working Plasma based system although the software choices might be too limiting for some. What stands out for me, apart from the obvious speed, is the KDE desktop presentation. Everything is as sharp and clear as I’m used to with Sabayon and Calculate which is quite an achievement considering the blurry mess served up by some distros. A few minor quirks such as the keyboard layout not sticking from that chosen at install and needing to be reconfigured and custom icons chosen for the panel launchers outside of the default set also blanking after a reboot but overall I’m sufficiently impressed to use this for my daily driver.
