Which is actually the current (Black Friday) price for a new purchase... (50% off)

So no discount on an upgrade?

Oh, you can apply coupon code BLK-FRY-DAY to get 50% off of the regular 50% upgrade discount :)

So I paid a little less than €30, including taxes, for a 4-pack (upgrade). That's a good deal! Thank you for mentioning this, @MPSAN.

How do you use the discount code with the Black Friday deal?

It looks like the prices have already been discounted by 50%.

That's what I thought. I was confused a bit by XIII, I thought we could get both discounts.

I did not get any Black Friday discount after entering my email address and order number to get my upgrade price, I think.

The upgrade price was 50% of the costs of buying v8 as a new customer (without discounts). That’s normal I think?

Using the coupon code I got 50% off of that upgrade price, so I paid 25% (50% of 50%) of what a new customer would pay (without any discounts).

Does this help clarifying stuff? Or did I only confuse you more?

You get both discounts: 1. Enter your email address and license key to get the upgrade discount. 2. On the billing page (address and payment options), use "Check to enter coupon code" to get the Black Friday (Code: BLK-FRY-DAY) discount.

Apparently Reflect 8 can also back up SD cards:

    https://blog.macrium.com/macrium-reflect-8-whats-new-and-why-bfda50595912

Do I understand correctly that this is only for exFAT formatted disks?

I'd like to back up my Raspberry Pi SD cards, but I don't think that's possible?

I could give it a try, but those things are so fragile that I rather ask before toying with them (I destroyed both cards when trying to install the Buster update on them; just by getting them out of the Pi...)

To my knowledge, REFLECT can now image UFD/SDs with the same specifications as imaging hard drives... no restrictions that I'm aware of.

Well I must be doing something wrong as I did get the V7 to V8 4 pack upgrade for just under $35. It said that I can go to my V7 and when I check for upgrades, it will offer V8 and fill in one of my NEW keys but it does not. It just offers me the latest V7 update. Am I missing something? It even says my V7 key, that it filled in is not valid!

That's a good sign. :D They already have changed your account to your new key. The same happened to me and I was also a little bit confused.

    There are now two steps:
    1. First you have to replace the V7 key by the V8 upgrade key you have received (received by e-mail I assume). Just by copy and paste (under Help → Update license key).
    2. Afterwards you go again to Other Tasks → Check for Updates. And only now the upgrade to version 8 should be offered for download.

This isn’t a Reflect limitation, but it affects Reflect. Windows will not perform VSS snapshots of volumes residing on devices classified as removable storage, like most flash drives and SD cards — as opposed to fixed disk class devices like HDDs and SSDs. So in order to get a valid image, Reflect will take those volumes offline from other access during imaging. You’ll get a warning about this for backups that are started interactively as opposed to scheduled backups, unless you check “Don’t show this again”.

So the file system does not matter?

I’m not even sure which one is used by Raspbian OS, but I would guess ext2 or ext4?

Though it would be nice if Reflect could back up only the used part of the card, which is only a small percentage.

Reflect can always back up storage devices in forensic mode, regardless of file system. But to my knowledge it actually has support for reading EXT file systems in order to back them up in intelligent sector mode to achieve the end result you’re describing. Why not just give it a try? Even Reflect Free would do this if it’s possible since that isn’t a paid feature.

Because last time I removed SD cards from my Pi’s (after properly shutting them down!) they all died.

Not having a full back up, it took several evenings to get everything up and running again…

Maybe I need to risk loosing one more to see whether I can make full backups now.

If you're looking to back up SD cards from PIs we use this:

I would like to thank all members who supplied useful information on how to upgrade to V8 using the Black Friday discount code. The upgrade only cost me around $20 which is very reasonable in the light of supporting this dynamic and reliable company. Furthermore the upgrade was automated by MR which made it a quick and painless operation. In Germany they have a great expression, saving is fun... Oh by the way I love the dark theme in V8.

I have one question about scheduled backups of my system.
Is reflectbin.exe the process that performs all file related operations during backup (apart from vss ) or is there some other Macrium executable involved?

    Thank you @aldist
It's seems that most file related operations are done by reflectbin indeed.

One of my corrupted SD cards is still readable (but no longer writable) and reports the correct disk/partition sizes. The other one reports 31 MB instead of 16 GB, so that one is completely useless.

I tried to make an image backup using Reflect 8 of the read-only SD card and it seems to go well: a 256 MB FAT boot partition and a 14 GB ext root partition (2 GB used) are backed up into a 1 GB image file.

Guess I need to risk both new SD cards once, in order to make a single backup of each (that speeds up a restore in the future).
