Lock Computer?

Hi

I was wondering if anyone knew of a program that can lock a computer like LockMyPC?

I know I can just use the Windows one, but I would prefer a freeware one which could use a password other than my Windows password and lock/unlock quickly.

Any suggestions?

Why the need to use something other than your Windows password?

I am of the humble opinion that in this case, Windows built in Lock can not be done better with software. I could be wrong, but it just seems like that there isn't a way for software to do it better because software would seemingly still be running under the user in the user-space, as opposed to the system level.

Well because sometimes other users use my laptop and I don't want to set another account. I know, I can add other accounts but I don't want to as other people only use it very occasionally.

 

Why reinvent the wheel?

Unless said "others" translates as your wife or your administrative assistant, I can recommend two courses of action: buy your own laptop, purchase professional privacy software.

Free privacy software is worth every last penny.

Hello Someone. Just use the Windows LockWorkStation function. You can create a desktop shortcut for it.

Right-click>New>Shorcut
Type rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

To unlock press Ctrl-Alt-Del. Enter your log-on password.

I realise that this is the easiest and best solution, but in my particular situation, some other people know my Windows password which I can't change, so I was wondering if their is a third-party program with the same or superior function where I can set a different password.

 

Why can't you change your password? This is your own computer right?

If other people are knowingly using your computer, then why are you attempting to lock it?

When you say lock, are you meaning lock in the traditional sense, or are you redefining the term to mean you want to set it so that someone else can use it without affecting your stuff/discovering your "secrets."

If you can't reset your password, it sounds like your on a corporate machine, and if that's the case, no one but you should be using the PC. I'm willing to bet that's a corporate policy. You seem to be trying to get around that with another program.

It's my computer, but I got it from the school I go to, and I can't change by password unless I connect to the school network, which is not often.
