Searching a Windows Defender good and free alternative for my new laptop I found Kaspersky Security Cloud Free a good one
    https://www.kaspersky.com/free-cloud-antivirus
After install it I have to manually unistall Secure Connection (VPN) and to avoid this vulnerability about ID sent
    https://www.heise.de/ct/artikel/Kasper-Spy-Kaspersky-Anti-Virus-puts-users-at-risk-4496138.html
"ID is now identical for all users of a specific Kaspersky edition: FD126C42-EBFA-4E12-B309-BB3FDD723AC1. A website can no longer recognize individual users. However, that means it is still possible to find out if a visitor has installed Kaspersky software on their system and how old that software is. That is actually valuable information to an attacker."
I simply deactivate inject script under Setting - Advanced - Network
Realy light in ram and footprint (less than 300 MB occupied on HD)

    Hi @Romagnolo1973
Sorry for my english, I'm spanish.
I don't use KSC Free but I see that it hasn't VPN (maybe i'm wrong)
I have KIS and I always uninstall VPN Secure but always 'Inject script into web traffic to interactive with web pages' active.
    That's the reason.
    Good day!

Yes sadly Kaspersky free install VPN as a separate program, is inside the installer without an option to skip it during installation but you can remove it after installation is complete.
Inject scrippt is needed for all the parts of KIS called on the image you updated, but all those parts, modules are not in the free version

It looks like Kaspersky has discontinued Kaspersky Free and is pushing users to Security Cloud Free: https://me-en.kaspersky.com/blog/security-cloud-free/14146/

My Kaspersky Free stopped getting update definitions or is having trouble getting definitions. I haven't had a successful update in 12 days. I might have to try SCF instead or go back to Windows Defender.

I actually just discovered this today. I was aware of the previous free product. I installed it on a PC that had been using Windows Defender and noticed that everything seems to launch a little faster and there is less lag in general. I'm going to keep it.

I checked a PC here that still had it and it seems to be updating as well. That said after spending a couple of days with the Kaspersky Security Cloud Free I would absolutely switch.

As I see from a few screenshots the only main difference with the antivirus free is that you can tweak settings on the protection modules (file AV, web AV, were previously greyed out).
    Any other fundamental difference?

Ksc free also has System watcher (BB , what you find in KIS) wich KFA don't have

Not true. KFA has System Watcher as well.

    Difference are here
    https://www.kaspersky.com/blog/ksc-free-download/23382/
" Overall, in terms of of protection against malware, Kaspersky Security Cloud — Free is a significant improvement over the last year’s version of our Kaspersky Free Anti-virus, which has gained user trust all over the world. But Kaspersky Security Cloud is a lot more than an antivirus, which becomes obvious even when you use the free version."
    Free antivirus, improved
Let’s start with new security features. Kaspersky Security Cloud — Free for Windows includes three major additions (and a whole bunch of smaller ones).
    • System Watcher performs behavioral analysis and blocks even unknown threats based on their behavior. For example, if an application tries to encrypt too many files at the same time, it is likely ransomware and shouldn’t be permitted to do anything. System Watcher blocks such activity and rolls back changes made by malware. System Watcher used to be offered only as part of our premium solutions, but now it’s an integral component of Kaspersky Security Cloud Free.
    • Automatic Exploit Prevention is another behavioral component. It’s responsible for protection against malware that exploits vulnerabilities in popular applications and platforms (Java, Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Acrobat, Internet browsers, etc.) Most computers have these applications installed, and many bugs are found in them on a regular basis. Malefactors and hackers use these vulnerabilities to install and launch malware with the help of special programs called exploits on computers of users who don’t keep their software updated. Automatic Exploit Prevention can detect such attempts to exploit vulnerabilities by recognizing typical behavioral patterns and block them.
    • Anti-Blocker, as the name implies, protects devices from Trojan blockers, a type of malware that doesn’t encrypt files but rather blocks the entire computer and demands ransom. Even if such malware manages to find its way into the system, Anti-Blocker will help your device bypass the block and delete the malware.
These three major additions complement the reliable antivirus engine and the useful functions such as antiphishing, e-mail antivirus, Web antivirus, and secure on-screen keyboard that are already part of our free security solution, Kaspersky Free.

According to AV-Comparatives WD is the worst AV in terms of impact, excpecially in file copying, uninstalling and downloading
    https://www.av-comparatives.org/tests/performance-test-april-2019/
This is for me natural because compared to commercial AV WD doesn't have fingerprint tecnology so it doesn't remeber files previously scanned, so it will scan your files everytime you open it. This is the manl lack WD have at the moment versus commercial AV IMHO

I have similar experience and agree with you. First thing I do when maintaining other people's computers is temporary disabling WD, while managing data and un/installing software. Difference in speed is unbelievable.

I was refering to an article that claims there is system watcher in ksc so i was assuming it was not in Kfa (sorry i could be wrong but i think its the other BB component thats not in kfa)
    https://www.kaspersky.com/blog/ksc-free-download/23382/

Its only the folder Downloads thats affected (slower because it scans all .exe files) but i don't share the same feeling about copying etc, i think it depends on PC hardware also....
For me Kaspersky slows down my web browsing and drags my internet speed down (because it uploads so many stuff ??) and more bloated compared to WD....

Seems to be quite an advanced solution, I wonder why people would even buy paid solutions anymore.

This is why it is particularly annoying to have any quantity of .iso files on your drive. It will scan them, over, and over, and over... you don't even have to mount them. Just open the folder. You may not have to even do that but I'm not sure. I used Process Explorer once to determine it accessing a Windows installation .iso for over 20 minutes one time, slowing my PC in the process. I guess those Windows 10 .iso files shouldn't be trusted. :argh:

I actually do prefer to have access to the modules that are disabled in the free version and if you keep an eye on the Newegg deals posted on here I did get a 5 user license for $22 so it can be had for cheap. That said, this is the best free version of a product I have seen yet and would call it good enough. For a free product I absolutely recommend it.

If you have a popup blocker disable it or else the site won't let you download it.

Yes is true, but simply right click on the download and open in a new tab work for me, it download the exe

According to last 1085 release note when free Cloud will be patch E (at the moment is still D) program installation package will include Kaspersky Password Manager, pitty especially because on the free version VPN and Password Manager are obviously limited (I think 14 password and 200 mb for vpn traffic)

Yeah, it installed both of those for me. Not sure if there is a way to remove, as I don't want/need them. The VPN automatically starts on reboot, and I have to manually close it.

With all the WSA bashing going on, i decided to move on from WSA and now use the Paid KSC and could not be happier with it. I Turned off the safe money setting because it did not work good, and also turned off the anti banner, anti spam, and the software updater settings.

You can use GeekUninstaller portable or RevoUninstaller Free portable, they uninstall the 2 annoying apps and clean registry fron their entries too.
