    Hello,
Using T.I. 9.0 i created a full backup of my C: disk, with split file, giving me 3 files *1.tib *2.tib, *3.tib, for a total of 3 Gb.
Then i scheduled an incremental backup every day with the above full backup as main. Next day without any change to my C: disk, the incremental backup started at the scheduled time, and created again 3 more files with the same size of 3 Gb (*4.tib, *5.tib,*6.tib). What is wrong ?? i was supposing to get in the incremental backup file(s), only the différence between the full backup time and the day after (no change in the C: disk except Windows XP working changes, but why 3 Gb more ??).
    Thanks for any answer.

    Hi jeanm,

Are you using Build 2323? Early builds contain a bug whereby the first incremental after a full image invariably ends up the same size.

    Regards

    Hello Menorcaman,
    Many thanks for your answer.
Yes i am using build 2323. The log said that it is an incremental BU...
I tried it manually and i got an incremental BU (small size).
I will retry next day with a scheduled incremental BU and will see if i get the same problem...
May be the problem you are reporting is not completly corrected, as the real chronology was (in order to test TI):
    1-Install TI
2- Create full backup of C: on another drive.
3- Restaure the C: with the previous backup
4- Schedule an incremental backup on the previous full backup (ends up with almost the same size as the full backup).
Thanks again, i will post the result.

    Hi again jeanm,

OK, thanks. Can you just confirm that you uninstalled any previous build before installing 2323 (it doesn't install correctly unless you do this).

    Regards

    Hello,

    to "Menorcaman"
Yes the TI 9.0.2323 was my first TI installation. I went from Ghost 9 giving me many problems on ...incremental backup. I did another trial, with a TI scheduled incremental backup and it works... it seems that the problem occurs only after a restoration, see my answer to "CalamityJake" below.

To "CalamityJake", your statement in your post:
"The thing is, if I try an incremental back-up just immediately after a partition restoration, the resulting incremental image is about the size of the full back-up."
is exactly what i have noticed, see my previous post. This problem is not corrected nor answered by Acronis. This also means that the restoration is NOT an exact image of the initial disk, as TI itself find that it has to start a full backup when asked for an incremental backup...(sector by sector backup question ?). This may link to unusable software protected by some sector(s) positionning on the disk.

Many thanks to both of you, i will wait an answer from Acronis on this post.

I've noticed the same thing with TI 9 2323 (And version 8-937 for that matter).

If I create a full image backup of my C: drive, restore that same image, then create a new 'incremental' image of the restored partition, the 'delta' file is just about the same size of a full backup. (This is using the bootable CD, in case that matters)

I was about to report this when I saw that others have already seen the same thing.

Acronis Support have previously stated that when TI restores an image it doesn't necessarily write to the same sectors that the image was created from. This means that the current "thumbprint" of the in-use sectors may well have changed significantly from that contained in the original full image. Hence the first incremental after a restore will likely be almost as large as the previous full image.

And I bet they also stated this should be transparent to the user and shouldn't pose any problems and thus we shouldn't bother so much about the how's and why's of TI. I know there's a lot of guys here who question the reasonability of others inquiring about the exact imaging techniques Acronis employs. And what he have here is just an example as to why these are indeed important to be aware of.
