I'm a little confused about the best way to back up my hard disk. I have an external drvie that is three times the size of my Boot disk. I'd like to have a complete back-up of the boot drive including all of the operating system files. But I'd like that to happen on a scheduled basis.

The external drive quickly fills if I set up the schedule to do that, and I'm unsure what files I can delete and still recover my system

As an alternative, Perhaps one COMPLETE back-up foillwed by incremental or just all files. Even then, what files can I delete and still do a restore?

It looks like the software created on rather large file follwed by several smaller ones for each subsequent back-up.

    Help . . .

    Hello Louisde,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

The following quotation from section 1.4 of Acronis True Image 9.0 User's Guide should answer your question:

You may also find this FAQ article helpful.

You can accomplish your goal (limit the amount of created images) in the following ways:

    - Schedule two tasks: one for the weekly\monthly full image creation and another for the daily\weekly incremental image creation.

As a result you will always have a set of seven images (one full and six incremental ones).

    - Create a special batch file containing the script that will delete the images according to some algorithm (depends on your needs) and set this batch file as a pre command in the backup archive creation options (see sections 3.3 of the above mentioned User's Guide).

If you want to have a number of sets of images covering several weeks\months then you may find this example useful.

Please be aware that we have already received a requests concerning the ability to "cycle" images creation from other Acronis customers and they have already been forwarded to our Development Team. The ability to "cycle" backup archive creation will most likely be implemented in the future versions of a particular product, but exact time frame for this is not decided yet.

If you want us to change the behaviour of Acronis True Image in any way or add some new features to this product, please feel free to post any of your suggestions in Acronis True Image WISH-LIST thread.

If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.

    Thank you.
