I want to set up so that I have different full backup in week 1 and week 3 per month and subsquent daily incrementals for the 2 week period after the associated full backups.
This is so that in case a full backup is stopped in midstream (e.g. it will delete the old backup then) I will still have a full standby backup, abiet a couple of weeks old.

But, how do I setup for a daily incrementals for each of the Full backups so that Im not doing two incrementals each day for each full backup.

    thankyou for any tips

    Hello rkruz,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please accept my apologies for the delay with the response.

I'm afraid that the current version of Acronis True Image does not allow you to perform actions you have described without having two sets of incremental images created at the same time.

You can also find this example helpful.

Please also take a look at my post #4 from this previous thread.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

    Thank you.

    Hello Alexey Popov,
Your suggestion seems to be good, (two Full backup every 2 weeks and two daily incremental backup), but i have 3 questions:
1- how to schedule a task "starting next week" ? (except by waiting the second week and scheduling the task at that time)
2- Once the 2d full backup is started for the same Full backup task, does it erase all incremental backup created during the two weeks ??
3- Is there any tricks to limit incremental backup to a certain number of day ??
    Thanks for your answer

OK..thank you. I posted a comment in the Wish List. I think its a critical error of TI in that it will write over a previous backup, eg, monthlys.

Hello rkruz, thanks answering me, but:
I am very sorry, but i do not see any answer from Alexey to my post dated december 31 at 9:26AM. My post is followed by your post dated december 31 11:55AM, then another post from me (the one where i request an answer) dated today January 4 at 5:02AM then your answer (saying already answered) dated today Jan 4th 11:21.
But there is no answer from Alexey...from my view !!!
Many thanks to point the answer for me.

of course if you read my post dated 12/17, with followup on 12/23 and the associated url with additional information dates 10/2, 9/7, and 11/1...you will see that your are wasting our time when you should be reading as you can see that the answers have been provided in numerous ways if one can even understand the confused nature of your question.

    Hello again,
Excuse my english difficult to undestand, but i am french...from France...
I do not want to wast your time, but only to understand how to use the task scheduling:
my first question refers to the Alexey "example" saying:
"- Task for the full image creation on Sunday every two weeks starting from the next week, with the file name week2, for example; " there is no way to schedule a task "starting next week" ??. In fact i wanted to schedule 3 full backup tasks delayed from each other by one week, how it can be done ??
My second question is clear (for me !): if i schedule a full backup every 2 weeks, and incremental backup every days, i know that 2 weeks later the full backup will be erased and replaced by the nex one; the question is what about the incremental backup done every days during these two weeks, are they erased too ??
About my 3rd question: i think the answer is no, as i did not find any counter in the task scheduling.
    Thanks for any answer.

It was very kind of you, many thanks for your pleasant answer, but... I was not requesting any answer from you, but only from ACRONIS support.

I give up! But I find it difficult to understand how jeanm could remain so polite in the face of your rude comments. His English comprehension is actually very good and his English isn't too bad either. You seem to be the one who can't comprehend a detailed explanation.

    Hello Jeanm,

The various Acronis Support replies in this much earlier thread titled <Weekly Backup Strategy> should help to answer your questions 1 and 2.

    Many thanks Ozmaniac,
I am very glad to see that i am understood, I do not want to debate with rkruz.... Your post is very interesting and answered some questions.

Thanks again Menorcaman, this pointer answered my questions 1 an 2.
In fact for question 1, I need to schedule the first full backup (every 3 weeks), then wait one week to schedule the second full backup (every 3 weeks again), then wait another week to schedule the third full backup (every 3 weeks also). The wait time between the task scheduling was not clear for me. Another point, I do not use Acronis Secure Zone, I use 3 folders, one for each full (and incremental) backup.

Question 2, is answered by Irina Shirokova (Acronis) in your pointer:

So, the incremental images stay in the folder where the new image is replaced (i use folders instead of Secure Zone). I dont know why, because the incremental images without the corresponding full image are not usefull.
I will try like this and see what happens. I will have to delete manually the incremental backup from the old(s) full backup(s).

    Thanks to all of you
    Regards

    Hello again jeanm,

There is really no need to delete the orphaned incrementals because each one will be progressively overwritten as successive new incremental images are created.

OK, I think we're all done with the personal attacks now. I've edited them out and do not want to have to come back in here cleaning up such rude and uncalled for comments (especially regarding nationalities!). Perusal of our TOS might be of some help.

    Thanks Menorcaman,
Orphaned incrementals will be overwritten, yes, but... how can i know that is an orphaned file, except looking to the file date before any restore.
    Scenario (all scheduled tasks):
    Day 1: Full backup: SaveC
Day 2: Incremental backup SaveC1 (folder contains SaveC and SaveC1)
Day 3: Incremental backup SaveC2 (folder contains SaveC, SaveC1 and SaveC2)
Day 4: Full backup: SaveC (old SaveC erased and replaced by the new one)
Day 5: Incremental backup SaveC1 (folder contains SaveC, SaveC1 and SaveC2 from old full backup)
Later in the day, i need to restore my disk: what happens if I select SaveC2 instead of SaveC1 ??, will TI warn me that it is an orphan backup ??

Thanks again to everybody for your courtesy and your patience.
    Regards.

    Hi jeanm,

If you select an orphaned incremental TI will provide an error message stating that the image is corrupt. Strange but true is that the original full image will still be shown in the list of restore points o_O. If you select this you will also receive the error message. Which is just as well!!

    Regards

    Thanks Menorcaman,
The main concern was that TI was able to see the orphan file and warn the user. So i will schedule my 3 full backups and incremental backups that way. Hope to post a positive experience in 3/4 weeks.
    Many thanks for all.

    Hello,
Want to post a positive expérience with incremental backup as described in my last posts above. The scheduling is a little bit painful: To schedule 3 full backup followed each by 3 incremental backup, you need to wait 1 week between each scheduling (each full back up is every 3 weeks), and there is no indication to know the scheduled date for each task. Other than that it works.
My last expérience was a restore with the last incremental backup, which link to a Windows XP error "c:\windows\system32\config\system" corrupted. Restoring the previous incremental backup corrected the problem. Just a question why restoring this incemental backup ends up with a Windows error ?? (checking verify image and files after restore got the same problem). Is there some crtitical timing (or interaction with Windows), when TI save the "c:\windows\system32\config\system" file ??.
    Thanks for any answer.
    Regards
