Help With New Drive

I have a Dell 8400 XP Pro. It has a 160 GB. Seagate SATA drive. I bought another Seagate 160 GB drive and a Kingwin External enclosure for the SATA drive. It is connected to one of the SATA connectors on the system board. I have an adapter that plugs into the board and has a connector on the rear of the computer. The cable that came with the enclosure connects the two. I got everythig set up and went to My Computer and turned on the power to the enclosure and expected to see the drive indicated on MY Computer, but nothing happened. I plan to bachup my computer to the drive with Ghost 2003. What do I need to do? Please help.

Nick ,it has not been formatted. How do I get to it to formatt it? It doesn't show up in device manager or My Computer.

 

My Seagates came with a Disc Utility CD that you can either run in Windows or boot from. Either way, just follow the instructions. If you don't have the CD, you can download the necessary apps from Seagate.

Nick, I have the CD. Should I turn power on to the enclosure then install the CD. I just want to be sure that I will be formatting the new drive. Also let me ask you this. I planed to only power up the enclosure when I wanted to Ghost to it or do something with it. Will that work ok?

 

I would power on the new drive and then run the CD. Try it that way first. If the Seagate utility does not see it for some reason, remove the CD, and reboot with the drive powered on. Then insert the CD and try again. As far as Ghost is concerned, once Windows recognizes the drive, so should the Ghost imaging setup routine. When I used to use Ghost with external HDs (USB), I only powered them on when imaging.
