    Hi,

I am still new to ESET Smart Security 5. I just installed a trial version to get a feel of it before purchasing the licenses.

I must say for now, it does not use as much of CPU memory as BitDefender does, which is what I am looking for.

There is a few of things I am not quite sure of.

    1. If I want to allow some of external IP addresses to get through the firewall, I went to set a new rule under Rules and zones in advanced setup, I noticed there are three tabs: General, Local and Remote. My question is do I need to set anything in the local. Can I skip it and go to Remote to add remote address. Because when I did put in an external IP address (trusted one), the firewall blocked it. I might have missed something here.

    2. Where can I view the scan log? because I noticed it says like Last scan result 8 infected files. I just want to see what they are.

    3. Also I could not find the place where I can tell it to move the infected files to quarantine or delete them immediately.

    Thank you very much

    Hello,

If you don't want to set up any restrictions for the IP addresses (ie. you want to allow them to be able to connect to any local port and allow communication for any local application), leave that tab as is, ie. with no settings.

On-demand scanner logs can be found in Tools -> Log files -> Computer scans.

Basically detected malware is cleaned / qurantined automatically unless the program is not sure if it's safe to clean it automatically (ie. there are also other clean files in an archive) or if cleaning of infected files is not possible for some reason. In that case, a window with action selection will pop up and the decision is left for the user. You can control the way files are cleaned in the advanced setup of the particular scanner by setting the cleaning mode to none, normal or strict cleaning.
