    Hi,

I'm running w2k pro with ZA+, TrojanShield, and AVAST 4, but cannot get AVAST to auto-update. It installs fine, and hits their server for the update, but then I get a message back that my "files are up to date".

Upon checking the def date, it remains 1/13 of 03. I've uninstalled, and reinstalled, and still nothing. The scanner works fine, and I don't get any errors--just no updates to the defs. :doubt:

I then pulled AVAST out and put AVG in. It contacts the server and updates fine. o_O

I'd really prefer to use AVAST, but obviously it has to update itself. Any comments from anyone? Help? Bueller?

  2. Same thing happens to me... Except I get 3 very fast dialog boxes, that seem to be downloading nothing.

Seems worthless if it can't update. Or perhaps everything is fine and there is no update?

Should be OK by now (with the latest VPS, released about an hour ago)...

If it's not, please try the following: go to the Control Panel, choose Add/Remove programs, select avast! and do Repair.

    The should fix the problem.

    Thanks VLK,

Have others had this problem, or were we the "lone rangers"? ;)

Can updates be manually downloaded from ALWIL site?

I first tried to repair it in control panel, but that didn't work. I even tried copying the server.def file from the website and dropping that into the appropriate area, and that really hosed it, so I uninstalled, and reinstalled, and it still wouldn't update--either automatically or manually. :doubt:

I want to stress that the program never showed any errors. It only reported that definitions were up to date, after hitting the AVAST server. This was obviously not true after the iAVS updates 1/21 and 1/24.

I uninstalled in disgust, and installed AVG free, but am now going to try the new (1.0.0.1) version posted online. :D

Incidentally, I d/l'd and installed the free Pro trial version on another machine this morning and it worked great.

An update is just being sent to you - should be on our servers in a couple of minutes...

As for the utility for offline update, it can be found on
http://www.avast.com/iavs4pro/vpsupd.exe . Please note this utility is still not officially supported as it has not been thoroughly tested.

Having said that, it should work fine ;)

    Hi Vlk

    Thank you!

I launched iAVS update & this time a download occurred. I looked for information about this update in "About avast!" but did not see any.

Could you post here what this update is?? & how to confirm iAVS def. (pattern) date or ver.?

Vlk, would you mind reconsider putting an update for ver 4 on the website to allow us manually update the program, as frankly till now I cannot find a reason for not doing so as you aleady do for ver 3 !! taking into consideration that both ver3 and ver4 have online update feature . o_O o_O

    Minacross,

It depends on your definition of manual updates:

    - if 'manual update' is something you must download manually from our server and then deploy it on the target machine, then we do offer manual update for avast4. To do manual update of the program, download the latest version of the program and just run it on the target, it will take care of the rest. If you want to do manual update of the virus database, download the vpsupd program mentioned above and run it on the target, it will take care of the rest.

    - if 'manual update' means something line 'xcopy deployment' to you (i.e. manually replacing individual files), then no, avast4 does not support manual update. However, I don't see any reason why we should be offering such a thing (it's similar to accepting installation programs only in form of batch files, not binaries :doubt:)...

    Hope this helps,
    Vlk

Oh I see, our web. Well, I admit, our web is not what it should be. We'll be launching a new web site shortly, so please forgive us that we don't update the 'old' web as we should...

But of course, you're right, the info should be there.

There needs to be information in the "summary" screen denoting the date of the iAVS file. I don't see it in there. This might help avoid some of the confusion.

New version looks great so far! :D
