There's an old thread here about this problem but it won't let me post there. I've seen several people, including me, stumped by this. So here it is:

    Product: Shadow Protect v3.2.

Problem: When you try to connect Shadow Protect's Image Manager to the server [localhost] it fails with no error.

Issue: This happens if Image Manager is installed with the default password. There's actually something in the field. So a password is installed - one you don't know - and the connection fails. No password error is show.

Fix: Remove, reinstall and set a password. I had no luck with a blank password.

This is a simple thing but annoying as all get up and not easy to figure out because there no error trapping done and all it says is that it can't connect.

It needs a fix. Bug report submitted.

    Hi Manny

They warn that the password is stored in an open config file. Did you by chance look there and see what it was?

    Hi Pete,

I know they say there's a configuration file but unfortunately I can't see it even with hidden files showing on my Vista 32 bit machine. The last poster, at the SC forums in my link above, mentions editing that file to fix this problem. I can't find it so reinstalling Image Manager was easy enough. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

I just looked in XP, and I couldn't find it either.

SC responded to my bug report saying this issue is fixed in the next version coming up soon. Good news and an impressive quick response from those folks.

It turns out that password is stored in C:\Program Files\StorageCraft\ImageManager\ImageManager.exe.config. It's in clear text and easy to change. The reason I didn't find it is that I didn't realize it was installed in a folder different then where I installed SP. I thought it all installed together, but no.....

By the way that mystery character is a 0 [zero] which presumably can be entered as the password to make it connect to the server if the problem arises. Or the ImageManager.exe.config file changed, now that we know where it is.
