File system error

I lost my boot menu recently when I installed Vista alongside XP. I also found that even from the Windows console I could not boot into other snapshots. So tonight I decided to re-install 3.31.233. On reboot I am now greeted with "File Sytem Error: RIR-01" - any ideas? I've uninstalled and rebooted and reinstalled a few times but still the same issue!

 

did you install vista into an empty snapshot, or into another partition?

 

It was a new partition. I've actually got it all working now by not just removing FD-ISR but all the snapshots as well.

OK, getting the same error again today - I can't boot to any other snapshots. Short of removing them all again, which I really don't want to do - are there any other suggestions? Could this error be related to defraging with Ultimate Defrag 08?

 

OK, got this error again now - had no problems since last install until I defraged yesterday with PerfectDisc - so can I not defrag? Do I need to exclude a folder?

 

Which version of PerfectDisk? Older versions may not automatically exclude c:\$ISR\0\$ISRBIN as it should be. I know I had to point this out to Raxco during one of the beta tests and it's been excluded by default since then - I just can't remember which version's beta that was and if they just missed it for that beta build and it had been excluded in prior versions. You can first do analyze in PerfectDisk on C: drive and then under properties for the drive, check exlcuded fiels and see if the aforementioned file is excluded (in a greyed-out kind of fashion).

 

It was actually the beta for v10. Had the same issue with Ultimate Defrag 08.

 

Ahem, WELL, if it were me, I'd be posting the issue with the team at the beta reporting site with my login ID and password as I've been doing with the issues in beta v10 that is going on right now, but it's not me. Latest build is 90 and I'll just leave it at that.

It's not clear to me that your issues are with PD in any event. Sorry, I haven't made the leap to Vista so I'll just have to defer to others.

 

But I'm not sure if its a PD issue or not. As I say, it appears UD killed FDISR too.

 

Well, I don't know UD's particulars, but for FD-ISR, unless things have changed that I'm not aware of, the file C:\$ISR\0\$ISRBIN needs to stay within a certain boundary at the front of the drive (sorry, can't remember if it's the first 1024 kB or 1024 MB). Assuming UD allows file exclusions, it might be worthwhile to remove and reinstall FD-ISR and try things again AFTER you've made sure C:$ISR\0\$ISRBIN is excluded from defrag under UD.

If you're Lucky, Todd from Leapfrog might stop by and be able to comment on the specific error message.

P.S.: I believe Peter2150 may be a UD user so perhaps he can offer some insight.
