Please share your experiences with using Emsisoft Emergency Kit to clean an infected PC. I have heard many positive comments recently with using Emsisoft Emergency Kit to clean infected PC's. Please do NOT turn this Forum Thread into [A versus B].

I have very little experience with cleaning infected PC's. In the future, if I get the opportunity to try to clean an infected PC, I would like to minimize the time which is consumed with the scan/clean process.

If the PC is bootable, I would scan/clean with (not necessarily in the order given):

    1. MBAM
    2. SAS Portable
    3. Dr.Web CureIt
    4. Emsisoft Emergency Kit
    5. Hitman Pro

If the PC is not bootable, I would first scan/clean with one or more Antivirus Rescue CD's such as (not necessarily in the order given):

    1. Dr.Web Live CD.
    2. Avira Rescue System CD
    3. Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10
    4. Bitdefender Rescue CD

    Thanks in Advance.

    Top detection rates!

However watch out because sometimes other less known cleaning / repairing tools , as well as WGA removers may be detected by Emsisoft as malware.

Do you think that it would be risky to do a Custom Scan with the "Heuristics scan for unknown Malware" Option enabled or would it be better to just do a Full Scan with the default settings?

I would use it, however being carefull with FP's.

Since i use EEK never saw it flag a critical system file as malware, but it usually flags some less known software. If you are running EEK from a pendrive, containg for instance dial-a-fix, smithfraudfix, WGA remover, etc., during a full scan it will detect some of those tools as malware, and if you dont be carefull they will be deleted /quarantined. Other possibility is that your client/friend have some crack or keygen in the computer: EEK will flag those also, however sometimes these applications don't pose any threat and your client/friend may need or want them, so i suggest to double check in Virus Total.
