How' s EIS's firewall and network protection? Is it just having general features and a common firewall or it comes with tons of features and strong network protection features and firewall?

It has seperate options for trustworthy and unknown programs - under two sub-categories: Outgoing and Incoming Connections. The Options are: Allow; Block; and Ask

Also in setting custom rules there are similar options specifying services like the ESET options in your second link.

It does have a "Learning Mode"

If you set the option to "Ask" you are presented with a dialogue to choose: "Block Once"; "Always Block"; "Allow"; "Always Allow." IIRC

 

But does EIS comes with Packet Inspection and IDS? I bet EIS do NOT have arp protection unlike ESET IS, right?

AFAIK Emsisoft has this strict policy on privacy and that counts into why deep packet inspection isn't a priority for their product at this moment. I doubt it significantly hampers protection for EIS.

In general, I don't think having a firewall is a big deal these days. The Windows firewall is pretty good and the vast majority of people are sitting behind routers anyway. That only leaves malware connecting to the outside, which is covered by EAM as well as part of the behaviour blocker. Hence the reason why I personally only run EAM and not EIS.

 

Wow really? I find that EIS alerts to a lot more things than the standard Windows Firewall. For that reason, I am really enjoying the firewall alerts in EIS. (Pretty new user here to your product).

I've always made it clear what I think a resident AV should be. Resident file scanning and malware removal, and ONLY that. No other bloaty modules and features that should be the job of other types of security software.

Emsisoft AM is my favorite for it's simplicity and light footprint, but even it has too much for my taste. Honestly the best resident AV ever (IMO) was the free version of Avira years ago... I forget which version it was, but all it had was resident file scanning and a scheduler for updating that you could use to get daily updates despite the free version not supposing to have that ability. And you could get rid of the splash screen with a registry tweak. And boy was it light... the lightest real-time AV I've ever used.

Oh how I loved that AV. If something like that existed today I might actually entertain the idea of using a real-time AV again.

@Fabian Wosar has on more than one occasion said here that he just uses EAM.

 

They really are getting out of the firewall business First Online Armor then EIS's own firewall...what's next?

Who is paying for a firewall these days? Outpost, Look'n'Stop are no longer available, Avira is using MS own firewall...

 

Eerily, two months ago, I composed an email to Emsi customer service requesting that my EIS license be converted to EAM due to general problems keeping EIS viable on here. I then deleted it thinking they wouldn't consider it. OK, come October, Emsi's making a comeback on here. I don't foresee there being any conflicts with VoodooShield, and hopefully not HMP Alert, so this combination will be a powerful alternative to Windows Defender.

 

I actually requested exactly that some time ago, 'downgrade' from EIS to EAM, and if IIRC they also extended my EAM license.

No problems with VS or HMPA, but I have mutual exclusions, where possible, in each product.
