    :) Hello Everyone!

This week I had a problem with my ICQ. It would not access the Internet no matter what I tried. So, I went looking for an alternative and found this app. It has no adware, no spyware and is completely freeware!

Easy Message Express 2.2 was released September 26, 2002 to the public after being tested by thousands of beta testers. It is also released as the upgrade for the thousands of users of Easy Message 1.6.
    The update includes the following...
    - File Transfer on MSN, AOL, ICQ, and Yahoo! This is a major feature involving writing three different file servers and three different file clients. All merged into a simple unified interface.
    - Group Chatting on MSN, AOL, and Yahoo! Another major feature that allows you to invite contacts into your conversations. It will open EM up to real chat rooms in the future.
    - Blocking on MSN
    - Offline send/receive on Yahoo!
    - Revised look. Starting to stray slightly from the MSN look without loosing the usability.
    - Color change. Set the main color of EM.
    - Snapping contact list and drawer windows.
    Small fixes...
    - Reduced popups on startup.
    - Always on Top fix
    ... and lots more
    Enjoy!

You are tempting me Snap. :)

So how is this different from Trillian and will this one be seen as competition to the big three to the point they start changing things around again to stop the interloper ?

How do you assess the Security issues on this one ?

    :) Hi Primrose!

Trillian is still in beta, isn't it? This one's gold. I had to find an alternative app to access my ICQ. It is not attempting to compete with these message services. You still need to have accounts with them but you don't need their usually ad-based apps to access them.

I have my accounts at the highest security level possible. But, with any IM format, there are valid security risks. Hey, it's a risk simply being on the Internet!

Do you know what measures could be taken to improve one's Security using Instant Messagers? I'd really like to know, short of not using them at all. Thanks.

    Best regards from Larry! ;)

See this link for a good discussion on Trillian.

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,4216672~root=security,1~mode=flat

No.. Trillian has been around for a while now with its ups and downs giving you full access to all the big three with their own servers and security formats...It is just as safe..maybe safer...you can search at DSLR for the word Trillian (make sure you put a dot in the "search all text..not just the search all titles) and you will get many hit on good threads that will give you the current picture.

It has it's advantages....but security with all of them is just common sense and experience in using them and knowing what to expect.

I have nothing bad to say about any of them.

Trillian released a security patch within the last week. What it is I don't know exactly.Check out Odigo. They have a secure messenger similar to Trillian only supposedly more secure. It looks good to me.They are working on a new up-graded version that will be XP compatable. This xp version is due out anytime. They have a message on their home page about it.

    :) Hi Tester!

Your post reminds of the lyric to an old song:

I hope that the "new version" is the one that they mentioned on that site a few months(XP).I got an e-mail response telling me that Odigo wasn't XP compatable but that they were working on that.I'm looking forward to trying Odigo out.It just may be worth the wait for me ;) Lyrics huh?I know that Duke of Earl(URL).On a side note, wasn't it Gene Pitney that sang that?(I'm a music trivia buff).

    Thank you Prince!

This looks like a great alternative to Trillian. i've tried Trillian and finally had to uninstall it....i just can't get it to work with my icq.....actually couldn't get it working even by itself, so i gave it up and uninstalled it.

i'll give this EM a go over the weekend.

    snap

(ps...i checked their Forum too...and it looks like file-transfer is offered in version 2.2 too, and it's compatible with XP)

Hi.I found another interoperable instant messenger program. The developers seem to be very security-minded.Integrity Messenger is compatable with most instant messengers.Yahoo, msn and ICQ are on the list as well as AOL and IRC.The download is 2.1mb.I'm gonna try it with yahoo messenger. Here's the address if anyone is interested http://www.integritymessenger.com Duke of Earl=Gene Chandler? Thanks for the correction discogail.P.s. there are plans to add voice feature in the near future.

    hi all

iv tryed this lil app and its not bad but still needs work

my mager beef is that there is no menu to set security and priversey and no ability to set up diffrent users as im not the only one in my house that uses IMs pluss by default EM logs on to all account that that have been set up which means that anyone with access to your comp has access to your contacts lists and anyone elses contacts lists which is bad coz i dont know about anyone else but i dont want my lil bros havin acess to my contacts lists plus when i log on to my accounts i dont want all my bros contacts apearin on my contacts lists but other than that and mabe a few cosmetic things like skins etc not a bad IM
