The closest I found to download the free version is at Download.com:

    http://download.cnet.com/DriveSentry/3000-2239_4-10876292.html

And you are right. There is no link at all at the DS sight.
I personally don't expect Polly to answer these questions.
Both her posts sounded like canned responses and did not get into any specifics.

    Hi All,
Ok, lets answer a few questions:
DriveSentry Desktop is a component of Security Suite, as long as SecuritySuite is around we will always have DriveSentry Desktop and will continue to offer a free/paid version of it. Whilst we launch a new affiliate program we have removed it from the website although you can still find it on numerous shareware sites including download.com, Softpedia, Tucows etc.
We have called it a Suite as it is combination of products, as it happens we do plan to include a firewall in the future ;) In regards product lifecycle, it has no end point as far as we can see since we will always be building in new functionality to both the individual products and the suite.
    Hope this helps!
    Regards
    Polly

    Thanks, Polly

What does the road-map say about the next version of DS Desktop? What and when?

Sorry Polly, this really doesn't help much.
We all know already that DS desktop is a component of your "suite"
Alot of people are not interested in your suite but only the desktop, as am I.
A link should have stayed on your sight, instead of making users search the web for a download link.
This does nothing more then to frustrate and alienate more users unless your whole ploy here is to try and force everyone to buy the "suite"

Speaking of the "suite", there have been many questions about the cost of this "suite".
Just so you understand, it's not the money, the "suite" is very reasonably priced but has to do with the principle.
I paid $10.00 for the desktop and now I can upgrade to your "suite" for the amazingly low price of another $10.00.
I'm not very good at math but thats a total of $20.00.
Now my friend, who has never used DS, can buy the "suite" for $15.00!
If my math is right, current users, who have already paid $10.00, are going to have to pay $5.00 more then a new user.
    Something seems wrong with this.

Look, DS is a good product with alot of potential I think.
And Polly, you're kind of stuck in the middle of this.
You're the front person who gets all of the flack.
    Tough job!
I know it's the top people.
The people who are supposed to think this thru before they act.
Sadly they are not and frankly they are upsetting alot of current users.
Everyone makes mistakes. All they would have to do is correct the errors they have made and I'm sure this would go along way towards ironing out the wrinkles.
Good luck Polly and nice having you here.

I will now tie up my fingers so I can't type any longer here. :D

Polly, you still didn't provide a link for downloading the free DriveSentry Desktop version. Why ignore the repeated request for a link -- unless there is NO such link on the DS website? :thumbd:

IMO, the DS website parallels the old Navy saying: "There will be liberty (but there are no boats.)" :cautious:

That link is at Softpedia -- NOT the DriveSentry website.

The point is -- Polly claims that DS continues to support the free DriveSentry Desktop version, but I cannot find a link for downloading it on DriveSentry's own website!

She was saying that as they "launch a new affiliate program" that they "removed the link from the website"..

Not sure if that was you was asking about Bell...

    Hi All,
    Me again
There was a mistake on that page which we've corrected so it now displays the correct graphic. You can indeed download desktop from this page but it is not linked to the main website currently while we launch the affiliate program (some of the shareware sites use this link anyway).
Regards the firewall comment: I'm told our slogan used to be 'The firewall for your hard drive' since that was basically what drivesentry used to do (firewall 'writes' to your hard drive) before other functionality was added as well.
Since the launch was not publicised in advance we are going to offer to offer a $5 upgrade fee for those people who have purchased DriveSentry Desktop or GoAnywhere in the 60 days before launch. If you want to do that, just contact sales (sales<AT>drivesentry.com) who will process the upgrade.
Have a good weekend everyone, bank holiday here in the UK on Monday...yay! :D

    Ian,

That was the same I was questioning, initially source code and architecture will be the same (say first year or so), then the software architecture of the new product will change due to improvements or code optimisation. Then you are absolutely right that from an internal cost perspective it is just not realistics to maintain an old product.

Consumer to Consumer PR is one of teh highest purchase motivators, with Internet enhancing transparncy, so again you are right, from a revenue log term perspective this makes much more sense.

    Regards Kees
