My old P3-450 chugs along with NOD32, SpySweeper, TrojanHunter, and Sygate Pro firewall. But if I disable DMON and EMON it does better.

I have MS Office and Outlook installed. I use the Outlook calendar only, and only use Word, Excel, and Access to create doc's. Not networked, and only use Outlook Express.

Is there any reason to run DMON and EMON when they are not used?

    Hi Michael

To be honest I haven'tnoticed a speed increase after disabling those two services.
I do you microsoft office but not any microsoft email applications. (I use K-Meleon and Thunderbird)

I do however have both services disabled and am very happy with my protection without them running.

Thanks for your replies, Tinribs and ronjor, helpful and to the point.

My primary concern was that in the complexity of NOD32, I would lose something not related directly to the two monitors.

    G'day Michael,
AFAIK neither of these processes would have any effect on CPU or File processing speed until they are invoked. Therefore they will only have an influence if you are Opening/closing Office files (I've notice MS state "scanning file" or something similar) or sending/receiving via Outlook.
It may free up a bit of memory/threads, but that would be about it.
As far as protection goes, so long as AMON is running you will be protected as files are read/written. So EMON will just enhance the process by preveventing the viruses entering your inbox in the first place. (but in this case you aren't using that). DMON, on the other hand, well I frankly don't know wheter it really helps at all. It will keep Office happy, but AMON should be protecting anyway. Unless another more knowledgeable user can shed light on DMON?

    Cheers Ben.

    Thanks beng,

Thanks for the info. Disabling the two monitors makes a very minor difference in the speed of my slow P3, but it helps. And knowing that both monitors are not going to affect AMON and IMON was vital.
