    Hi all,

I've got a big PDF database (around 8 GB) and some of these PDF files are very long: 18,000 pages and 400 Mb. The PDF versions are different (v1.1 up to v1.6).

Beside its reliability, I would like to have a software that allows to locate searches (keywords) within PDFs.

    What would you recommend?

    Tia for your help ;)
    Cheers

PS : I currently use Foxit Reader

    Jean Marc,
Looks like your Foxit Reader has a Find feature, similar to Adobe Reader, according to a screen capture (seen below) on their Web site. That feature does not work for you?

    Hi JRViejo,

I know this feature but it's not handy when you've got a large amount of PDFs. Each time you have to perform a search through thousands of pages (!!!) and it's very tedious and long...

That's the reason why I'd like to have a desktop search software to quickly find what I want.

    Tia,
    Cheers

    Hi Ian,

I tried it but it can't do the job properly...
It is unable to process large PDFs : obviously, it doesn't index the whole content and furthermore it is unable to open to large files (it freezes!).

    "InfoRapid Search & Replace", free.

I am using it and it works well but I don't know how it will perform with so big pdf files as yours...

    Please note:

Before you can search PDF files with InfoRapid, you first have to copy the freeware program pdftotext.exe, which is part of the XPDF package, into the installation directory of InfoRapid Search & Replace. Please click here to download a zip archive with the program pdftotext.exe.

    I use ISYS.

It's not free nor is it cheap. But it sure does work well.
