config. to share files

    Hi, I really need some help. I saw someone posting about Qwest and MSN and Microsoft 1000 DSL modem earlier, but I need to know how i can configure my ZoneAlarm firewall so I can use a file sharing program, yes I know, it's not really something that's appropriate, but I need to configure my firewall so I can connect and share, and establish a primary connection with my DSL modem.
    Please reply or email me if you can help, especially if you're familiar with Winmx file sharing program, hopefully the admins wont delete this cuz I need help sharing files.. lol
    I can't seem to access the "Alerts and Logs" "Log Viewer" in a way that I can enable my connection to other users, when click on the option, the options white out. HELP! PLEASE!

    Hi Nikki,

    Can you give us a little more information please? First, what version of Zone Alarm do you have? Also, is it Zone Alarm Free version, or one of the paid versions (ZA+ or ZAP)?

    Also, it is important to know if your PC is directly connected to your modem (a single standalone PC), or do you have a router or some other server between your PC and the Internet? (This is important in case you need to make changes to that router or server to connect up to other file sharing people.)

    If it's just a standalone PC and Zone Alarm Free (ZAF) then the only option you need to set is to allow Winmx to have server rights, so that it can connect without problem to other file sharing systems.

    As to your issue with the Log Viewer, I'm not sure I understand what you are saying exactly. Can you explain the problem a little more? Could you paste an image here of what the ZA screen is showing you?

    Hello Nikki,

    If you are trying to get WinMX to work thru your firewall, here are the default ports that WinMX uses that you need to allow:
    Both incoming and outgoing UDP on port 6257 and
    Incoming TCP on port 6699.

    I am not familiar with Zone Alarm, but I am sure if you do not know how to do this, someone that does will jump in and walk you thru it.

    Actually, that's why I asked what version and model of ZA they had. Unfortunately, ZAF does not have the ability to allow or block specific ports. All you get is the choice of letting a program act as a server, whereby it can open and listen on any port, or not act as server.

    ZA+ and ZAP have detailed custom configuration screens to allow more complex settings.

    sorry I havent responded, I lost this site after I sent the message.
    I ended up deleting ZoneAlarm, it was way too strict, tried blocking everything on my computer, like it was a fortress or something. I had the free light version.
    I still cant get my winmx to work with the right ports, but I"ve realized that Microsoft 1000 DSL Modem has its own firewall built inside of it that I cant bypass with certain ports, so I cant DL anything from winmx untl microsoft comes up with a way to bypass their own modem, not a good idea to have a firewall that's so strict, I need one that's lighter.
