cloning to sata

Hi,

Last night I downloaded the free version of true image and set about making a clone of my primary 70GB Maxtor IDE disk onto a new 120Gb Maxtor sata disk and setting that up as a my new primary drive. After installing the drivers and ensuring my SATA Devices were enabled, I used Acronis' True Image CLone Disk to copy and set up new new disk. I hadn't presented the disk yet but was able to choose the new disk and the copy went fine with everything seeming to go according to plan. After it completed, I changed the boot path to look at this new drive and completely ignore my old IDE drive.

XP came up fine and new system hard drive was F:. The old c:drive is still there but according to disk manager, it isn't the system disk. However, when I unplugg my old disk, XP won't load and just sits there on the Blue XP Logo screen. I think I just need to go into disk manager & rename the c:\ Drive and as Z:\ and then rename F:\ as C: but thought I'd ask you chaps before I went and did anything I regretted.

If this works I think I'll have to buy true image as that is too easy !

Could you please do the following?

- Download the Acronis Report utility from http://www.acronis.com/files/support/AcronisReport.exe;
- Run Acronis Report utility and select the "Create bootable floppy" option;
- Insert a blank floppy disk in the floppy drive and proceed with creating the bootable diskette;
- Boot the computer under consideration from this diskette and wait for report creation process to complete;
- Send the 'report.txt' file from the floppy disk to Acronis Support along with the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and help you with the solution.

Just thought I'd post again to say thanks for the support and let you know what I did to resolve the issue.

I should of just switched out the old drive at the very start but not sure if I would of been able to load windows as I was getting this problem when I removed the old drive afterwards.

Anyway, I was able to rename the current c:\ drive through disk manager and rename the f:\ drive as c through rededit (found a link in microsoft support website) . I then rebooted and have my new drive as c and my old drive as g. I still need to reformat my old drive to ensure it's not referring to that drive but it seems to be ok for now.

Hope this helps someone else - Can't gaurantee it will work but it might....
