This might be a bit off topic but I don't know where else to ask...

I recently cloned my dual boot WinXP/Linux Grub enabled
laptop drive and replaced the original disk in
a usb enclosure and the new disk in the laptop.

After adjusting grub on both drives I can successfully boot
both linux and WinXP from the internal drive and can boot
linux from the original drive currently emplaced in the usb
    enclosure.

Any attempt to boot WinXP from the usb enclosure
    meets with failure right after
the grub "chainloader +1" command appears. The error
message is (more or less) "Disk read error".

Is there any magic to getting XP to boot from the usb
enclosure ( it booted fine when it was inside the laptop)?

    Thanks

    Jerry

Let me add that when I boot XP from the internal drive I
*can* mount the ntfs volume in the usb drive and the
data/applications all seem to be present.
