can not created new partition

winxp pro sp3 (clean installation with all microsoft updates)

Intel Pentium 4, 2400 MHz
1143 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)
C: (NTFS) 39195 MB (32110 MB free)

i am attempting to create one additional partition (a NTFS logical partition approx 10 GB ) on the only hard drive in this system using the "create partition" wizard. i tick the "free space of the existing partions". i tick the "yes. i want to assign a logical drive letter to the partition". i label the partition. i click finish and then "commit" the command.

the system reboots as expected and would appear to process the commands initiated in acronis.

however, when i then boot into windows the new partition does not appear to have been created. I verified this by looking in "disk management" within the "computer management console" of winxp pro.

the acronis log appears to show that the new partition commands are created without error. however i do not know how to generate a log of the actual process of creating the partition, if one indeed can be generated.

i would appreciate any thoughts that you all may have.

Try the operation from the boot CD. If you cannot see your disk in Full mode (Linux-based recovery environment) then try Safe mode (DOS-based recovery environment).

Also, if you don't have enough free space on the disk to create your new partition you will first need to resize the C: partition smaller. Make C: smaller then create a new partition in the uncommitted free space.
