Can I substitute FreeOTP+ for Google Authenticator requirement?

I use FreeOTP+ for two factor authentication on several sites, and also would like to use it with my web host. However, my web host supports 2FA only through Yubikey and Google Authenticator. It says it doesn't substitute an alternative to Authenticator, period.

I think that I still can safely substitute FreeOTP+, but also don't want to deal with a bureaucratic nightmare if I'm wrong and manage to get myself locked out of my web host account.

Can anyone tell me for sure?

FWIW: the web host lets me choose between 'Google Authenticator: Time-Based' and 'Google Authenticator, Counter-Based,' and recommends that I choose 'Time Based.'
