can an external HD be encypted

    can you encrypt an external hard drive is it better to encypt the files or the drive ? can anybody recommend a good program for this ?.

    yes, you can. better to encrypt the whole disk. i recommend you give veracrypt a try.

    Whether you encrypt the files or the whole drive, MAKE SURE TO SAVE THE HEADER BACKUP. Loss of the headers is the main reason folks lose their precious data.

    Windows built in bitlocker also perfect for this... As others say... Save a copy of the recovery key/header
