Do what you like. Both are good AVs and will protect you well. :)

Between those two only - wait for KAV.

bitdefender isn't bad, but i would say either wait for Kaspersky OR wait for Kaspersky and substitute with a freeware AV for the meantime (only if you really need some sort of protection soon)

  10. The best antivirus/antispyware/malware is no downloading of free mp3`s, screensavers and smiley`s.

I beta tested KIS 2006. It reduces my 5ms down cable modem speed to 2ms. I already had BD free version. I got BD 9 Pro and it doesn't affect my internet speed in the slightest. Kaspersky may fix the problem before the end of the beta but this was an ongoing major problem from the time I joined the beta back last June and it was still a huge problem in January 2006. So, I don't have a lot of confidence that Kaspersky will fix this problem (or can fix it). I am not the only tester to see a GIGANTIC reduction in speed. A lot of folks are experiencing this. I don't pay $45 a month for 5ms down in order to get less than one-half of that. Without KIS on my box, I get 4.8ms down on a variety of speed tests that I do regularly. I have a powerful computer (XP Pro, 3.4GHz Pentium IV, 2GB RAM) so that has nothing to do with this problem. I am very happy with BD.

As you have been told before Mele20, it is because of the webanti-virus, for some it will mean more bandwith loss than for others (that would be me, who has an 4mb connection, which with the web anti-virus is a 3.4mb connection. The point is that you can disable it, both during the install and after if you don't like it and you can in fact choose what components you want during the install, not exactly a bad thing and something most users have requested.

Whether Kaspersky will be able to reduce the loss over the next 3-12 months is not something you or me can predict with any certainty, but i can tell you that build 270 is better in this regard than 269 and it is still beta.

NOD32 is good, but so is BitDefender, and I am forever conflicted between these two AVs. :'(

When ever I read a review on the Bitdefender Security Suite or BD 9 Pro Plus it seems that their antivirus side of things does very well infact excellent, but the other side of things such as antispam, firewall, parental control seem to have an average score.

I know BD has got its strong and weak point and its strong points are its AV engine. Hopefully over time it will improve on its other slightly weaker points.

To be honest I cannot compare BD Pro 9 AV against KAV as to me they are both very good AV solutions plus again I've never used KAV so really cannot comment on it. KAV is a top notch AV and its Trojan detection is supposed to be the best out there, though NOD32 is catching up, though I think NOD32's AV detection and heutistics is prob better, but than again to me they both very good progs.

Seriously speaking and to be honest if you were to choose between KAV and BD Pro 9 you cannot go wrong, in either way your PC will be very well protected.

I bought Bitdefender 9 (AV part - am using Sygate Personal for firewall) just in case KIS 2006 doesn't work well. Using BD now, and it's been good. I believe KAV has better overall detection than both NOD32 and BitDefender, but the KIS beta causes me to lose my internet connection, and I'm not sure that will be fixed.
