Best free security "suite"

I’ve been out of the loop for a while and was wondering what sort of stuff people are recommending at the moment.

Currently I am using:

• Online Armor
• Firefox with Noscripts allowing scripts globally and adblock plus with Easylist’s recommended lists and settings
• Avira Antivir always on
• SUPERAntiSpyware on demand
• A relatively careful web browsing policy

Have there been any major changes or newcomers?

I want to do a reinstall and was wondering what to go for. Thanks for any advice.

If you are interested in betas you could look at:

IObit Security 360 which has real-time monitoring.
I like it and haven't had any issues with stability or compatibility with any other programs.

The other program that you may be interested in would be the new version of Avast. Version 5 beta is due for public beta release any time now.
There is an active thread in this forum and over at Avast's blog site.

That is if you are willing to test a beta.

What OS are you running ?
You might want to investigate employing LUA and SRP.

Are you using Online Armor free or paid ?
There are major differences in the versions.

I recommend you add (in addition to what you already have) Sandboxie and Prevx on-demand.
Both offer free versions. If you like the added protection and want even more, you can upgrade either or both to the paid version.

Finally, add an imaging program, or at least regularly back up all important documents.

 

Why would you do that? it's dangerous! the reason of having Noscript is to forbid scripts globally and only allow the websites you trust/need.

If your looking for new stuff I'd look at Hitman Pro 3.5 . Its pretty good.
Does a behaviour based scan of exe and dlls on your PC and then uploads suspicious files to a cloud. Found a lot of registry / power delete type apps on my PC with the BB scan so I was impressed with that. There is a Thread on wilders somewhere.

In terms of privacy , I'd look at LSO cookies. I only found out about them recently.

KIS 2010 is also very good as a security suite these days. Has a lot of good features in one package. I like the UI of the IOBIt 360 Beta as well

 

The best "suite" or assembly of single purpose security components is the one(s) that best matches your configuration skills and is compatible with your OS, software, and base security policy. Without more information, (OS, software package, skill level, etc) it's impossible to give a specific answer.

I'm using XP SP3 and I'm probably "average geek" in terms of knowledge.

I used to use sandboxie free ed, but have forgotten how to use it. Is the paid version about £10? I seem to remember considering paying for it a while back.

I also used to use Returnil which seemed excellent but (like Noscript) seemed a bit too intrusive.

Noscript with global allowed I read stops cross scripting or something similar which is all I seem to remember thinking I needed it to do.

 

i found noscript too intrusive also, its like driving to work in a tank, your very safe but its not that practical, but thats just my opinion, i think sandboxie or geswall are the answers, but im having a big problem with sandboxie atm and am trying to find someone who knows alot about the technical side of sbie

 

tbh i just got soo used to noscript that i dont even notice it now and when im using a browser that doesnt have it i feel like im doing something wrong or somethings missing

It is not all free though. But I could live with Online Armor free.
