I would ask the BD support how they would like you to go forward with this, they may want you to create some dumps from the "lock up" moment and send them to BD for analysis to find out if BD is causing it or not.

Usually crashes like this are a result of some background tuning tool, 'fixing' your computer, which in turn causes your security suite to also check the files at the same time it's fixing them. Result = crash.

The problem here is people have all sorts of background tasks running, such as a tuning tool moving files around, defragmenting files on the fly. If you have your security suite set to check every file you open, your security suite will be trying to scan as your tuning program is tuning.

Are you running any other security apps with BD?

When you say the CRT looks scrambled I take it you mean the image on the monitor? If so that most likely due to display driver.

One way you can check to see if it is BD is to uninstall it while offline & see if the same thing happens.

Also check event viewer for any errors & post them here.

My wife had been running Bitdefender for some time until she had started getting crashes from time to time and assorted graphical issues.I have heard of a few people having issues with Bitdefender and some Nvidia drivers.I have since installed Kaspersky and WSA on her Win 7X64 system and I haven't heard a peep out of her since.

There is an empirical way to find out whether something is conflicting with BD. If you can make a backup image of your system, you can then uninstall anything related to security or any program that might be suspicious (things like Photoshop and Office for example very rarely create any problems). Once Windows is more or less 'clean', you can then check how BD is behaving, then start re-installing the programs one by one, and seeing whether there are any conflicts.

If it is too time consuming, then it is probably faster to test another AV.

So sad BDs frontend/GUI is so pitiful.

Anybody wanting BDs excellent engine & definitions. I suggest getting one the many AV & IS products that have licensed BDs excellent engine & definitions.

I use Emsisoft AM Pro & it's very good.

Except the current G-Data, which is even buggier and can't detect its way out of a wet paper bag (sorry but that's the truth, and I'm obviously far from the only one here who thinks so, otherwise there would be much more enthusiasm in the 2015 beta thread so don't start pretending to like it).

    The rest are fine.

no other apps but being that its total security it has a built in tuning tool..
Come to think of it it seems no problems till I went from BD Internet security to total security 2014

Bitdefender hasn't caused me any issues yet.

    Not ANY.

But that's internet security, not total security.

Have you used any 'tune up' tool ? Generally it's best not to do that. I'm not familiar with BD's own tools, I just know that such tools generally make things worse.

Especially if you start messing with the registry ...

I'd never used a 'tune up tool'.
It fixes registry errors ? That's a bad thing.

Now, manually editing the registry when you know exactly what you are doing is a different thing altogether.

If there is something seriously wrong with the system, I'd recommend a reinstall.

Woah, WOAH SM changes the whole parameters here.

    SM:
Imo & Ime one of the worst pieces of software ever written. I hope anyone who uses this has a recent image to restore from.
