I am presently evaluating Paragon Backup and Restore. The complete version information taken from Help>About is as follows:

    Paragon Backup and Recovery™, version 10.0.17.13783 (04.08.11 ) Home

I have a W7 (64-bit) laptop and I am doing a file backup to a USB drive. I originally did a full backup and I set up a job to do an incremental backup. I chose not to backup the Windows directories.

    1- Backup time:
    - the full backup took more than a day giving 57 GB of backup files.
    - the incremental backups took more than 12 hours, yielding between 1.5 to 2 GB. That is way too much. Anything I am doing wrong?

    2- Incremental backup problem:
A few days ago, I had to reboot my PC due to some problem while an incremental backup was being done. Since then, the incremental backups have became full (or amost full) backups, taking more than one day.

I am almost ready to give up on Paragon Backup.

How did you do the backups? If you used a Linux boot CD, it can be that the drivers aren´t optimized for the external USB disk that you used. Try a WinPE boot medium, and/or change to a more recent version of the program.

Also, Paragon programs are not the best tools to backup files. You could try a file synchronizer. I only use the Paragon programs to do image backups of the system partition.
