Avast Assertive...Assumptive Marketing

    Yihaaa :D. I know the saying "one should not hate...." but IMO it's very much OK to hate Facebook. And as you, I will NEVER EVER join FB, and yes for christ sake keep FB out of the products, it may even push new as well as current customers away, and I don't think that's the point. Yes the contest stuff is out of hand, there's a commercial on TV now from schweppes saying that you can win a bartender for a day, "like us on facebook and you have the chance to win...." Yeah right :argh:

    Bottom line is, let the people who use facebook, and want to use facebook go to facebook.com on their own. There's no need to bring facebook to ME, I know where to find FB if I want it. :isay:

    P.S if you feel the same way about facebook then come and "like" me on facebook :p

    It sure helps my old eyes to leave some spaces. I don't find I am able, and willing, to wade through even fairly long posts without some extra spacing.

    For most companies whose primary goal is chasing profit(s) it'll never happen, unless Facebook suddenly loses it's #1 social media status, along with it's prodigious member base, which profit conscious companies are betting will spell bonanza for them, and their products.

    No offense but there's difference between advertising and marketing. What you guys are referring to is technically advertising which is only 1 part of the marketing process. That being said, I personally think Avast as a company is doing a good job on the marketing side as a whole...

    Out of curiosity, did you have any trouble getting a refund? It sounds like that's what you're planning on doing.

    I used some of the early versions of avast! way back when it and AVG and norton were the only ones floating around. Liked it then, and with the new version, I personally think it's still a fantastic program.

    I can understand people on this forum not liking the social marketing side, but the fact remains, social media isn't going away. And social media does a lot of good for a company and you as the consumer. If you feel the program should have certain features for example, and want to see how many others agree, instead of sending an email, just like this forum, many people will turn to avast!'s facebook page and see what others in the community think.

    And facebook has so many people commenting that they have run into computer problems, so these people might benefit by knowing about avast! and that it is free, not even the cost of a cup of coffee. Less people with malware on their system, the more people using avast! and providing the company with valuable information, the better.

    Case in point - installed it on a friend's system last week, this person had no idea a free antivirus was available with tons of protection features and an excellent interface with clear alerts. This person didn't believe me it ranked in the top 5 of anti-malware programs.

    Unless you're continually looking at the user interface, I don't think the social media tabs are an issue. Each to their own, but I think it's a set and forget program, one of the few which needs minimal user input to be effective. I've left it at default settings for a week now, I'm impressed that I haven't had to tweak a thing. Browser cleanup tool + software updater, excellent features.

    What might be a minor inconvenience for us (social media tabs), may be a massive convenience for others. A convenience which saves some people $70 +

    In summary, to me, avast! is just moving with the times (even if not all of us like this 'movement' and change), avast! is simply A+.

Saraceno...as mentioned previously in the post...Point being when using the Paid version of any product...the customer Shouldn't have to Deal with Well Intentioned but Overzealous Marketing Offers. And many of us simply don't and shouldn't have to deal with Malware Targeted Social Media Sites. And I consider myself to be very Sociable...but it's My decision of who I wish too to be Sociable with! Sincerely...Securon

    Apologies for going off on a tangent, must have been due to lack of sleep. Fair call on the paid product and that it should focus on being a more streamlined version without the non-essential marketing etc. I think with these additions to the interface, and vlk's comments, at least avast is open to further tweaking and refinement to best suit its paid and free users.

    Wonder if users would appreciate an 'edit interface' feature, where it is straightforward to remove various menus etc, just like you can in the more detailed settings section?

Your heading in the right direction...in that Companies should make it Evident Up Front...to it's prospective Customer that Add On's can be easily disabled. Unfortunately due to circumstances...the Economy...that the Bottom Line becomes more pronounced...leading to the Assertive...Assumptive...Approach...in generating Revenue! Sincerely...Securon
