seems to work quite fine, only what's annoying is no way how disable that SecureLine tray icon

Programs and Features, you can uncheck it there. Though this will also remove the SecureLine entirely.

Is SecureLine like a private VPN making all sites HTPPS?

Will it be in Avast Free or only Pro and up?

No, it doesn't make everything into HTTPS.

SecureLine is mainly designed to be used on open wireless networks where 3rd party might intercept your sensitive data transferred through their openly available WiFi network/hotspot. SecureLine prevents them from doing that.

Open VPN has a stronger encryption and is generally more stable. Kind of overkill but better overall than PPTP.

PPTP is definitely enough though for normal users. It's really hard to decrypt.

Afaik PPTP has been deemed insecure for quite a while now, though L2TP/IPSec is still good, so if OpenVPN is the only difference with the Pro version, then there's not much incentive to upgrade. Strange btw, on the SecureLine page on avast.com, there is no mention at all about the advantage of the Pro version.

So it is designed only for wireless connections, not for fibre optic connection for example ?

You can use it as well but the use on unsecured open wireless networks is its primary use and function. Because without it, anyone who is operating the hotspot can intercept your data. But if it's encrypted, they can't.

Well, if you don't use WiFi for security reasons, then this makes the perfect reason to start using it.

Is Avast SecureLine only available as a separate addon?

Anyone got any idea how close we are to exiting Beta2 stage?
Not seen anything of any real substance in last couple of updates to be honest.

Is it really better/safer than Safe Money in Kaspersky or SafeZone in Avast Pro?
I thought they would prevent intrusion even when using an unsecured WiFi.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Technologies like those protect the browser from possible banking trojans present on your PC, some also have secure DNS and/or IP checking but you should use a VPN on unsecure WiFi.
