AV-Test Nov-Dec Results

For home products (on 8.1)
Corporate test (on 8.0)

- Almost perfect results for Kaspersky.

- Nice to see Avira and Panda translate their performance on AVC tests to AVT.

- Avast's performance has improved as users here have recently said, but the detection score is still low.

- Is there a rare bug or something that slows down Norton, or is it just a fluke?

- Eset still "slow". See Norton, but that's the same issue over and over again.

 

Yes Avira never got good results in these tests... It really confirms that version 2014 and its new APC is really working well.

 

Interesting that Baidu Shadu, which uses the Kaspersky engine, performed so poorly.

 

wow. avast seems sucks big time.......

 

AFAIK it uses Avira's engine, but it doesn't update properly.

 

I have no idea for Baidu Shadu which is the Chinese version.

Bitdefender & Kaspersky again...Norton is light as a feather. Qihoo & Avira good job!

 

Eset starting to get Performance issues..hmm... Btw, I would really had enjoyed, to see my second love " Emsisoft" to be participating in this test..oh well I can wait...

 

It's amazing to see they have both increased in performance to the point where they are getting top scores and are still 2 of the most effective. I remember when they were both such pigs I wouldn't run either of them. I've got Kaspersky running well in a test environment. It looks like I need to do some testing with Bitdefender.

 

- Good to see Baidu, but results were bad.
- Ouch Avast! What happened?
- Panda Cloud Free did VERY well protection-wise. Surprised to see it do poorly in performance, since it is a cloud AV.
- Qihoo seems to do well here, but I just can't trust it.

 

Agree...seems like Bitdefender never gets the credit it probably deserves but always does well. Glad to see a new AV Test...we need something to argue about! LOL Let the arm wrestling begin!

really nice to see it among the top in av-test.

Antivirus that is effective and yet lightweight are very hard to come by,
Avira always was light on my system, nice to see it get awarded for being effective too

 

Kaspersky is the real consistent performer everywhere,

I'm confused by the ESET performance statistics on recent tests, I mean - I've never seen it so light as now!

Great detection rates though, SS7 really has been a good step up

 

In my experience ESET is a little slower when copying or downloading executable files. I guess that's what they are testing. During "normal usage" ESET is one of the lightest AV I have tested (WSA is a little lighter). OTOH F-secure gets almost all points for performance It would be nice if testing procedure would be explained more in detail.

I agree that ESS v7 is a very good product, but I do find it to be the heaviest version yet. Not bad by any means but worse than some competing products.

 

It's no fluke, the later versions get good performance scores. It works great for me, but then again I'm using its AV only.

 

I've never installed it on my system, but I do encounter it almost daily, when supporting our customers. Though, they might not have latest version installed...

Well done Panda, wow! What happened to Avast?

 

Avast should spend more time on detection and less on add-ons like safepay and GrimeFighter.

 

Avast won't say if they whitelist NSA spyware,
Kaspersky says they don't whitelist NSA spyware, but silent on whitelisting Russian security services spyware.
Also,
If these AV testing services can't figure out how to test Webroot, how the hell does Webroot test its product? And, if they do have a test, why don't they share it with the AV testing folks?

 

99% of my customers & family is still using XP or W7; but I do agree, more stuff and less fluff...

 

You must understand that no developers from security related features are transfered to development of GrimeFighter/Safepay.
These features have their own team.

 

Happens...sometimes up sometimes down and now lets not forget AV-C summary result for avast where it performed very well and plus I am seriously questioning AV-Test now.Check the avast results its around 95 in protection and still just 3 stars!?

I acknowledge that some people have bigger expectations from a big name avast and that is why people create statements with smoky words like "sucks" and it has been happening since long time.

Who said avast arent spending more time on detection?? Because if they think so they havent seen the improvements that are coming along...I mean deepscreen is more active now and we dyna-gen rules coming every 1-2 alternate updates.I Have been check virus update history page everyday and you see them coming: www.avast.com/virus-update-history and from the looks its seems like they have a VPS that comes out after like 2 updates that has dyna detections on the major end.Check 17.1.2014 - 140117-1
7.1.2014 - 140107-1 and you see a couple getting added like every alternate days.

But wait these guys are just using like 1000 samples but when there are like millions out there coming out everyday....So now you decide

Anyway,I am a big believer of the improvements that are coming along january 2014 and some things that will follow will surely make it better than the ever! I mean the increase of dyna detecitons,filerepstring detections,filerepmetagen detections and evo-gen which are increasing every day.

Lets wait and watch what happens in 2014....Really positive about dyna-gen engine.Hopefully its in feb because that is the time evo-gen engine came out last year.Fingers crossed
