Looks like Adguard 5.9 is coming very shortly. Beta is currently in Release Candidate. (I'm a beta tester now) I can say the improvements in 5.9 are fantastic. It's lighter, faster, and overall has some great features. CPU/Memory spikes are gone, Slowdowns/Lags are gone. It's now a viable, and full featured replacement for Admuncher. I've migrated 6 machines here to Adguard - dropping Admuncher for good. No issues at all, and filtration under GZIP, HTTPS, and IE11+ is most welcomed on those machines. I'd say another week - max - for 5.9 proper to launch based on their release schedule.
Adguard uses it's own filters, which are updated daily, sometimes a few times a day by their team. It doesn't use Adblock filters, nor can they be imported into the program. It does however allow an 'option' to automatically use Google's Safe Browsing Databases to enhance security/privacy to a higher degree. I tend to check those by default. Also, there is a user-filter mode, where you can choose what to block, and when to block it via the Adguard Assistant within the product. There is also a method to quickly, and easily report missed ads, or broken sites - usually fixed within hours. With Adguard assistant, you can do quite a lot of extra things, and it's within all browses - not as an extension, but through Adguard itself and it's own plugin system that isn't constrained to any specific browser. Which also has WOT ratings built in - by the way;
Adguard RC2 was released today. Looks like tomorrow, or at the longest, 2-3 more days before 5.9 proper comes out. Then everyone can marvel at how fast and light this version is. Those boot slowdowns, and CPU spikes are long gone.

Adguard is Russian, they have roughly a dozen people on their team if I remember correctly? Several tasked in different areas of the program development with Andrey being the overall CTO and producer if I recall? Please correct me if I am not remembering correctly. Nevertheless.. 5.9 is a major improvement, the product is fully viable as a real, functional replacement for Admuncher. Adguard is heavily developed, heavily supported, and offers features Admuncher does not, and will likely never support. Now that Facebook is implementing new Video-Ads that are HTTPS driven, Admuncher will be even less functional, and I read Youtube may start serving HTTPS encoded ads as well. Great stuff.. 5.9 has been really fun to beta test, and witness the awesome changes with every update. PS: Can we orange-name Avatar here, since he's one of the boss guys over at Adguard?

Free extension was a test. We didn't know how many users will use it and how to promote it. So we've chosen Chrome because it is the most popular browser. Now we see the might of free extensions On monday we'll start open beta test of the Safari extension. Firefox users, wait till the middle/end of april please.
I hope Adguard 6 moves to the metro-style interface, as it looks like it will have a new UI.. Can't wait to test it! Funny thing, in a very very short period of time Adguard came from nowhere, to fantastic. All during that time, and years before, Admuncher has promised version 5.. That's why I put my money behind Adguard, huge improvements, very little time frame - yet they apologize for slight delays! From Adguard; Our future plans As always we are missing all deadlines. One day we'll learn how to do everything in time. So what's in progress now: Firefox extension - we have just started development Adguard for Android - development is in progress. We will soon get a working prototype (not ready for public yet but it is a very important step). Adguard for Mac OS X - the same as for android version. Prototype is coming soon. Adguard 6 for Windows - new design is ready. Working on first UI client prototype.
Murray Hurps - being a business man, having many projects, and focusing on startups is perhaps having 'second thoughts' about development of an ad-blocking (Hence revenue stopping) program. Yes, it will be metro/flat style. It will be totally different from the old design. I'll be ready to show screenshots at the end of april I think. In my opinion he is just playing with words. Adguard, Easylist guys, etc, we all block only what people ask us to block. And advertising is a good thing indeed, who argues with it? Some people just don't want to see it. It is their right after all.
I'm extremely adverse to advertising. I do not watch live TV because I do not want to see commercials. Everything is passed through Tivo, which then allows me to 'skip' commercials. I found a website that had over 230 advertisements/trackers on it.. Without Adguard it took nearly 3 minutes to load. It's become so ridiculous! I'm careful not to fill out any forms, surveys, or join any shoppers clubs because I know all of that data is mined. I simply do not want to be a part of what I view as the most corrupt industry around. I understand the need to 'market' a product, but that can be done without intruding on peoples privacy, safety, and sanity, right?
Don't think so. Put yourself to the place of an ad network. Your product will fail to the competitors if you think about privacy and safety instead of revenue. Just business. I see a tendency that ads become more intrusive with time. Do you remember the time when there were no ads on youtube or facebook?
