True Image Trial crashes my machine

    Hi

I have downloaded the trial True Image from the Acronis web site & have installed it on my machine. It's installed fine on my machine but it freezes the machine at the same point everytime. I start the backup process & I am able to get to the final screen but when I press "Proceed" the machine freezes up & does nothing after like a few seconds. There is no disk activity & I've left it for like 10 mins, thinking I was being impatient, but to no avail. My only options is to Ctrl+Alt+Dlt to restart the machine. At first I thought it was because I was trying to write to a blank CD-RW but I have since tried backing up to another drive & still the same problem.

I'm running Win98, which I've updated with all the updates I could. The machine spec is 1.0 GHz, 256 Mb RAM, 2 hard disks - 8Mb + 20 Mb (partitioned into two 10 Mb. The 20 Mb Drive is master and the 8Mb is slave. C drive is one 10Mb, D Drive is the 8 Mb and E drive is the other 10 Mb partition), DVD drive (not burner) and CD Burner (the DVD is master and the CD Burner - DVD burner is F and the CD burner is G).

I really like the product & would like to buy but if I can't get it to work then there is no point !!!

    Any ideas ?

I had the same problem using Windows 98SE. I did not do a fix disk scan before the backup. I had some screwed up files. I ran scandisk, from the DOS mode, as Norton Utilities could not correct the problem in Windows. It got stuck and went into and unending loop. After scandisk fixed the problem, and then Norton worked fine, I reinstalled Acronis 9 and no problems at all. Moral of the story is RUN a FIX DISK utility before you back up. Acronis does not give you any idea of what's wrong.

Please report back after running SCANDISK. You might need to run SCANDISK from both Windows and DOS as they can fix different problems.
