If you search on the internet, you will find similar websites with 46 best-ever freewares. Your website is just one of them. Comparing all these websites would be more interesting, than focus just on one.
Like different recommendations, different motivations, even unknown freewares, ...

 

Yep, there are plenty more, but this kind of sites that a trusted a great help to inexperienced users.

 

It's the first place I usually look when I'm looking for good freeware. The recommendations are usually good and up-to-date.

Yes, yes. I love that site. I go to it first when looking for good freeware. I have found most of the recommendations go hand in hand with Wilders and the site gives good detailed explanations why one program is better than another, etc. I am poor, can't afford the expensive software and I am not a computer geek. Without step by step instructions I'm always afraid I'll blow up the darn computer and start WWIII. That site gives good step by step instructions. Wilders is more detailed, more in depth, but not nearly so user friendly or so organized.

I have no connection to the site. It was just a goldmine for me.

I agree. That site, overall, has a lot of great info, but I think the security pages are not as good or as up to date as Wilders.

 

Yes, I agree Someone. But I have to dig and dig synthesize info here at Wilders, most forums are by nature a bit of the wild, wild west. Techsupportalert is just well organized. So I toggle back and forth between the them and Wilders. Probably, as I get more knowledgeable, I will come to Wilders more than techsupport. It's a great place to start for newbies though.

 

The "mother of all freeware sites" is HERE. I am not a fan of Gizmo's *selections* (what he recommends and what he pans) by any means.

 

I go to Gizmo's site, among several others, when looking around for new software or as another opinion on a software that I may have already heard about and want more information on. I do not however take anything he says as the last word on a subject. I usually like to see multiple opinions/reviews before trying out new programs.

Sometimes I agree with Gizmo's top picks; he does have several programs listed on his site that I use. Sometimes I don't agree at all with his picks. There are some programs that I wouldn't be without that he either just doesn't list on his site as being good or that he has even panned as being subpar in the past.

So, I would say don't be afraid to got to his site for information, but take a grain of salt with you when you go.

 

Well now because of the new site everyone can contribute, not just Gizmo himself.

Gizmo's site is an excellent one. I subscribe to the paid version of his news letter but a free version is also available. He states his likes and dislikes and gives reasons for both. You will find a lot of good helpful information there.

 

I like http://fileforum.betanews.com/ because it's based on user opinions but also have the webpages recommended applications, on both free and paid software.

I find the opinions from there are fairly accurate.

 

I like fileforum too, but I prefer 46 Best because it is structured really well and has a lot of great information (except for the security pages, still needs some work).

 

Some useful stuff there for sure which helps in deciding whats right for you, not as comprehensive as File Forum but good nonetheless.
