XeroBank 2.0 has launched. An email was sent out to all who requested invitations as previous xerobank customers.

Steve, can you post a “change log” that documents the improvements/fixes that were implemented in the 2.0 release?

    Thank you.

Well, the whole thing has been rebuilt from scratch, so i can detail most of that here:

    1. New Software Installer
    2. New User Interface
    3. VAULTS has been implemented
    4. New Network with cascade IPSec and intelligent routing
    5. Updated OpenVPN client, not new one yet.
    6. Pick your country from the taskbar
    7. From yearly down to Monthly billing
    8. $1 demos
    9. Bandwidth accounting instead of hard caps and connect caps for the purpose of having more than 1 computer using the same account at the same time.
    10. Mail server use exchanger shadowing, imap servers now have built in spam heuristic training.
    11. distributed network file storage system (not yet public).

Don't want this to sounds like spam, but that should cover mostly all of it.

I'll just give it to you straight: xb and swissvpn offer two entirely different products. SwissVPN is a "nofrills" provider, so you can expect the offerings to match. swissvpn is pptp, which isn't the best because it leaks your real information sometimes, and it is a simple single-hop system so there isn't any anonymity but it technically works. xb is a "full-service" provider for internet, email, and file storage. xb uses OpenVPN which isn't as leaky, and xb network offers stronger anonymity / more servers / more features / free security software / support. As for your other question, I'm told it is $1 for the first month, rebill at $35.

Steve, what does “as leaky” mean? What is the definition of a “leak” – and, under what conditions and at what frequency might such an event occur?

    Thank you.

I did the $1 payment but I didn't see where to download the new VPN. Just the XB Browser. I did log in with my new 16 digit number.

I was just rebilled this month for XB Pro. Will this transition me over to XB Pro 2?

Steve I am confused about this. I am a current Pro member. The website does not accept my old username and password. I tried using the account access code and the other code to login and that didn't work. I did not see any instructions on how to log in....or if I need to re-register etc Please help. Caspian

    1. Uninstall your xerobank you've got.
    2. Download the xerobank installer
    3. Input your Access Account #
    4. Done.

As for rebilling, contact me offlist and we'll get you set up.

Okay, I don't see anything from XB to uninstall in "add and remove" so I just deleted eveything and ran Ccleaner.

I ran the the installer that I downloaded but it only listed XB Browser as an option to be installed. I did not see an option to enter a code.

You have to put in your new Access Account number, not your old TransID.

first and foremost, congrats on launching the network, good stuff.

how for the nit pick/rant, todays post is brought to you by the symbol '$' and the word 'expensive'. i know networks are expensive things to run and they require good upkeep but for the end user $35 (for existing customers) / $45 for new customers is what most pay for thier broadband little known a vpn provider. I think many protential customers are going to weigh the features vs price and immediately move on. i know i will not be paying the much, its too expensive for my needs, i think many usually only protect a single computer or a desktop/laptop and have no need for a multiple connections (could leave people to have thier accounts stolen and be none the wiser). The features are even alittle lean for the asking price when compared to the competition, good providers also include multiple connections ie SSH, http, cgi proxy for when you don't have access to admin account or in a restrictive environment ie library/net cafe. Even through you offer multiple servers to connect too, so do many others at a lower prices. I think your missing out on alot of customers whom only went to protect their IM/web browsing with say 30 gigs a month between 10-15 a month.

Good luck with it all, its seem to be quality service that caters for a those truely no limits on what they spend on privacy protection.

Okay. I am on my father's computer now and it asked for my access code. It did not give me that option on my computer when I tried. It installed XB Browser only. I don't understand why.

So it did install but now it says connection failed. I tried 3 times. I will try again tomorrow.

Steve, you haven't answered caspian's question. I to have a "legacy" pro accnt.
How to get a "new Access Account #", do we email ?, do we have to purchase new accnt. , cancel old , so what's the deal ?. it appears you haven't figured on how to deal with "legacy accnt's.

    Caspian,

You have to first uninstall the prior version to go from xb1.0 to xb2.0.
If you don't have an uninstaller link, just delete c:\program files\xerobank

    ParaNodes,

Legacy accounts will sign up like normal users, but inform us with their
old dalpay receipt, and we will manually credit them back their prorated
amount and give them double the monthly bandwidth.

[1] Concerning the new software installer, is the user presented with an option to individually enable/disable the installation of xB VPN, xB Browser, xB Mail and xB Machine – or, must all four components be installed initially?

[3] You have mentioned “VAULTS” on several occasions, but have not provided much of a description. Can you kindly elaborate?

    Thank you.

Depending on what code you get enables certain features. If it is an xb2.0 account, you are locked into xB VPN, and get to install any others you want. if it is a xb plus account, you get locked into xb browser and don't get xb vpn availed. Just sorts out people to tell them what software they need. Truly you don't need xB Browser if you have the xB VPN installed, but it certainly is a great tool to enhance your privacy.

VAULTS stands for variable anonymous user letterbox token system. It is what separates the Deposit account from the Access account, and how your usage tokens anonymously get from one to the other.

Got my browser(s) working last night...tonight I work on email. Last up is my news reader (Agent) but I have been unable to find any tutorial or setup instructions. I assume there is a way to access Usenet through Xerobank....

Could you explain what these codes are and why they need to be separated. I am a little confused since XB sent them both to me in an email.

There is a little magnifying glass next to it that gives a better explanation when you are at checkout. What these codes are is this:
Deposit Account #: This is where the actual purchase takes place. When your credit card is billed and goes through, it credits tokens to this account. This account has identity tied to it.
Access Account #: This is the anonymous account you use for vpn/email/storage etc. The deposit account sends its tokens over to this account.

The reason some people like to separate them or not have them sent is that it adds anonymous payment to anonymous services. Just another feature if you enable it. Most people won't pay attention or read the print during checkout, which means they probably aren't going to record their #s, which is required. So the box is checked for you by default to make it easy, unless you uncheck it.

Currently your access is anonymous, but your payment method isn't if you're doing automatic payments and the cards are known to each other. This is where VAULTS comes in. If you want to set payments up anonymously, you would generate a new access account from the deposit card control panel, and then you would change the payment method from automatic to manual, and i think you would then leave the cards unassociated. Then your next month's balance would sit in the deposit account until you manually send it to your access account. The idea is that we make is simple and automatic for most, and if you want to get really into it, you can make it as complex a transaction as you like for anonymity. That means infinite flexibility in payment methods.

leak would be that your vpn connection drops and doesn't notify you or stop the communication altogether. PPTP leaks like a sieve, meaning you thought your connection was going to relakks/swissvpn but it went straight to your normal ISP. OpenVPN isn't as leaky, not by a long shot, but it can happen if your ISP is sending bittorrent reset packets at typically your UDP encrypted stream over and over again. This typically only happens in windows, but is one of the reasons we're rewriting the OpenVPN GUI from the public version.

Steve at present the only nodes I can connect to is Canada and the Netherlands, is there due to be an increase of nodes in the near future?

Also when I try to configure xB Machine with my new 2.0 account it always fails but I can connect using my old 1.0 transaction ID. Not sure if this is something still being worked on or a bug.

So if it was done manually as you described, would that have any effect on my account as a legacy client? I don't know that I would want to bother with it, but even if I chose to, I would not want to lose the lower monthly cost and the increased downloads per month. You did say that Legacy members get a little bit more than the 75G per month, am I correct?
