wsa+pcav=good idea ?

Hi,

I was just wondering if pairing wsa with pcav would be a good idea.

1. Will it increase my security as in a double layered security protection against malware?

2. Will wsa conflict with pcav, though it's said to be compatible with other av?

3. What about pcav on-demand scanning? Wsa will effectively scan all the files opened for scanning by pcav, right? So pcav will take a long and I mean long time to scan, right? So wsa is not completely compatible with other av, is it?

4. When a known old malware is introduced into the system, how will the two av work? Will wsa let pcav catch it first or will wsa fight for the detection?

I wouldn't run them together, by choice, however...I'm seeing WSA & VIPRE very happy together. It's up to you.

 

Similar question here too. My Norton subscription is almost up and Webroot is one on my shortlist. Is it sufficient on it's own or is it best paired with a traditional security suite?
If it is more effective when used alongside Norton or whatever doesn't it defeat the object of having a really light and fast AV.

 

the simple fact is you can pair it up if you wish, but by itself you are getting basically the same protection as with your AV alone. I mean the difference in a couple of percentage points on detection is not a reality issue.

I am using WSA on 3 computers with MBAM as on demand scanner and have a backup of each computer. With WSA my computer feels like it is on Weight Watchers and I am not worried in the least of anything bad happening.

 

Yes it Great on it's own but if you want a layered approach I would suggest WSA with MBAM Pro in realtime and it's only a 1 time purchase for MBAM Pro!

How is the Firewall in WSA? Do I need the Windows 7 (64bit) Firewalll turned on or off?

It's works with Windows firewall so yes I would turn it on! Windows Firewall is very good for inbound protection and WSA for outbound protection! I only use Look'n'Stop firewall as I have had for 6 years but if I didn't I would use Windows Firewall and WSA! Thanks for the comments - I'm giving the trial a go now; already seems to be picking up one or two things Norton missed.

 

May I ask how is your skill level? If possible can you upload the detected files to VirusTotal and give us the number of AV's detect them as malicious? https://www.virustotal.com/

me, I've never had a peep out of Norton, Prevx, WSA, MSE, or KIS that wasn't a FP, ever.

 

I think the key phrase in the article is "without user interaction" - the items WSA flagged were all on the shared NAS drive. Makes one wonder what the kids get up to

 

I can assure you the 10/42 and 10/43 were malware and depending on who the 3 were in the 3/41 it may or may not be malware.

Either way very good job by WSA on finding them.

 

Thanks for that info! Can you do one more thing? Go into the main GUI>PC Security Tab>Quarantine Tab>Save Threat Log and post the relevant lines in the log to those files and also omit any personal info like your name!

Never really thought about MBAM pro along with WSA.I have a license here for mbam pro i got for free when i bought Acronis True Image Home.I am happy with just using WSA complete,but another layer won't hurt i suppose.I dumped KIS because over time it didn't play well with WSA.Things froze more than once no matter what exceptions i made in each.Think i will go ahead and try MBAM pro along with WSA now.Thx for the info

Like we said before WSA will pick up new programs as possible malware as some other AV's pick up WSA as malware! Just report it to WSA support! http://www.webrootanywhere.com/support

trjam may have a few pounds of Avira on there! FYI...I have been using WSA and MBAM-Pro together and also leaving Windows 7 Firewall on....there has not been any slow down that I can detect. It is very impressive!!!

 

How could one, so obvious FP "bother the hell" out of you? Does this one FP mean you've abandoned WSA now? I know how you love changing you AV a lot of the time, but a FP is nothing...different it it started flagging lots of good files and acting all weird or suchlike.
In three months plus, I've seen one FP (on install/learning scan), and there was no doubt it was nothing to worry about.
Plus, you also know that these little issues are fixed faster than anyone afaik.

That may have been an infected source of whenre I got the exe off of Facebook for Panda. Checking it now.

it was`actually my USB key infected. I have never seen that happen.
