Hi. I just uninstalled wormguard and now I can't open any sys files. Windows comes up with a message that reads windows cannot find wgscan.exe. This program is needed for opening files of type SYS FILE. Any ideas? thanks.

Tsjeee first time i hear this Rdy!
Did you before uninstalling WG disable it first?
Just an idea which comes up here.
May i ask, was there a special reason why you uninstalled it completely?
If possible a try could be installing it again, enable and disable the function before uninstalling it again, if that could help.....
Which windows version are you running?
Had you configured it to block / scan sysfiles, exe's and all that?

Thanks for the reply. I uninstalled wormguard with the uninstall that came with the program instead of the add/remove uninstall and that did the trick. I uninstalled wormguard because I think I have too lmany security programs running already. av program, firewall, and a trojan program. Wormguard is a nice program though. Ron

WormGuard is a program on it's own, a very nice addition and extra security where many others leave you.
I mean: i have av/at programs, beside it TDS for lots of other ways to detect and secure my system (and being actually able to really do and act), firewall of course, with email scanning and so can do the other scanners, and WormGuard is blocking worms, malicious scripts or other suspicious files, it blocks all kinds of nasties from web sites from entering my system and if it would in any way it is blocked from running. It did safe my computers life various times.
Further WG runs all in the background, without taking any resources and just pops up when needed in cases mentioned. Also i really love the possibility to look inside a file and the warnings why it is blocked and so i can decide to take the risk or not. I would feel really really bad without it, for sure.
It gives so much security, people can safely leave their scripting host installed, not any reasons to cripple windows in that matter as you are extra protected.
The next version must be even more awesome and that together with other tools in the build......

    Hi Ron, Jooske :D

Correct, with older installers of Wormguard we weren't checking if Execution Protection was disabled before uninstall, the current version will not allow you to uninstall unless you do so, freeing up the DLL

    Thanks again Jooske :)

    Hi

    I can second jooske's comments.

I have been running WormGuard for several months and it is the most active protection I have.

Many alerts all legitimate. Even if its just suspicious and you want to visually check the content.

    I run Kav4, NOD32, BOClean, WormGuard and TDS3

    Regards

Yes, it just warned me for a file with a double extension few moments ago, which was invisible. Great program!

Thanks Gavin for the additional explanation. If ever necessary --in beta testing for instance-- i made it a habit to prefer the programs own uninstallers over the add/remove.
Just realizing i was among the beta testers for the first WG version ever, and never was without it since!

The only complaint I had was that sometimes when I tried to open a sys file I would get a message that there was not anough memory to run this program, shut down some programs and try again. I know this was wormguard related because after uninstall everthing opens just fine. Of course there is probably a workaround that I just didn't bother to look for. I am going to try it again.

Was that opening the file itself or "rightclick scan with WG"?
As the latter is a known unfortunate error which is worked on.
On my system it has to do with threads which should be closed after finishing and which takes too long as i noticed using prograsms like Faber Toys www.faberbox.com or WinTask, or TaskInfo2000 and all that kind with which you can look and close them, looking in TDS the netstat and running processes, etc.
Hope that gives some extra insights in what is happening and which seems to be the resources factor.
