Frequently when closing WinXP SP2, a popup window reads "Eset Nod32 antivirus. This program is not responding." With buttons to end now or cancel.

This has been occurring only for the past couple of months and frequency is about 4 times a week. Quite annoying since I now have to sit here and observe every windows close down, else it will still be running in the morning. Any ideas for a fix would be appreciated.

Using 3.0.636 with current data updates.

    Hello,

It seems you are a few builds behind. Since then, new builds have come out which contain some fixes that might be related to the problem you are experiencing.

What I would suggest you do is download the latest version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus, uninstall your currently-installed version, delete the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\" directory if it is stlil present and then install the version of the software you just downloaded.

If the problem continues to occur, the issue can be troubleshot further.

    Regards,

My dguess is that I have the latest program update in that it is set to do that -- current version is 3.0.636.0. Also data updates are set to be automatic.

Interesting that just now when was checking the settings the program crashed -- no particular reason that I know of and only program running in background is Thunderbird, and of course, this one, Firefox 3.0.

the latest is 3.0.669.0 You have to download it it don't come from automatic updates as the virus def updates do. eset.com go to download purchased software and enter the user name and password this will let you download the 669 version

Downloaded update 3.0.669. However, it won't install. Receive warning that the log is being used by another program (under docs & settings). All programs are shut down including NOD32. And Eset or Nod32 does not appear in WinTaskMgr/Processes.

Also went to the log file and deleted individual logs, but receive same msg when attempt to delete eScan folder.

And tried uninstalling Eset and it will not, receiving the same msg.

So how in the heck can it be upgraded?

    Hi,

In the task manager are ekrn.exe or egui.exe listed? Those would be ESET NOD32.

Do you still have eScan installed? If so, it has to be completely uninstalled. If not, try booting into safe mode and see if you can delete the eScan files and folders from there.

    Thank you,
    BFG

Thanks, starting Windows in safe mode and deleting eScan did the trick. Restarted Win, attempted uninstall, but don't believe it removed much, if anything.

Then installation went without a hitch, and all previous settings remained.

Recommend the deletion of eScan be fixed -- it's far too much for the average user to contend with.
