Windows XP built-in zip problem

Hi! When I opened a zip file, then I select a file inside the zip, then i copy(ctrl-c) and paste(ctrl-v) on other location but cannot, there is no error message and just like nothing happen. Although I right-click and paste so many times already still can't. Is there any other internal problem
For your all information, I opened zip file, then select the file i want to copy, then i MINIMIZE the opened zip file not close it.
Please help me!!!

 

I have never used the 'built in' XP zip program. In fact, I never knew they had it until I had xp for about a year. I've always used the freebie 7-zip which can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/

 

No there is no "internal problem", as I am experiencing the same problem.

The only solution is to unzip and copy and paste the file if you still want to use Windows XP zip capabilities.

As the previous poster stated, you can also use 7-Zip which I also highly recommend, but since to my "minimalist mind" I think XP's zip capabilities will suffice.

 

I know about 7-zip, because i use PowerArchiver. I want use windows built-in zip because it very fast, i don't want to extract then copy and paste. its too complicated.

 

if u seriously want to use XP's function tho i cant understand why, remember to right-click an individual file and select extract. the follow the prompts and select where u want it extracted to. one last thing, it could be that archive was compressed with enhanced deflate or deflate64 in which case ull need a 3rd party archiver since XP doesnt support enhanced deflate.

 

No Buddy, I try compressed a file using RIGHT CLICK and SEND TO COMPRESSED (ZIPPED) FOLDER in Windows XP. Then I try copy and paste from opened compressed folder also cannot. Maybe I need to reformat the PC.

Because you've used PowerArchiver, you might try to restore XP's file association. Last file "ZIP Folder Association Fix" on the page below can be viewed by selecting edit, then cross-referencing your present registry entries against the fix prior to merging (lose asterisk). It may return previous functionality.

Dear buddy, the problem still same even i run the registry file.
And one thing, when i install PowerArchiver, I remove the check box for ZIP that associate with PowerArchiver.

 

What's it say inside Folder Option's?
My Computer > Tools > Folder Option's > File Types tab > scroll to ZIP?

have u tried right-clicking and selecting extract instead trying to use cut/copy? or maybe dragging the file out of the zip? maybe its just not possible to use cut/copy/paste

 

Let me get this straight .... were you saying in your first post you once had the ability to c/p a selected file from a zip or compressed folder into another folder?

Compressed (Zipped) Folders

 

Zipped folder mean opened using windows xp built-in zip, it is like windows explorer, then copy a file, then i minimize the opened compressed folder, then paste on another location, nothing happen.

 

Its possible to cut or copy directly from opened compressed folder using windows xp built-in zip. Previously i try this method many times already, till now i got problem and can't be solved. Thanks anyway, i must reformat the PC already, but still no time..

 

WSFuser's correct in that drag n'drop work's. On my system (XP) the ability to cut or copy from a compressed folder to another folder only worked for me with both folders open. Your saying this is how you were doing it previously and now somehow have lost that functionality, correct?

But i can't drag and drop, it is same problem, can't copy and paste directly from opened compressed folder.

I tried, that is same as make association with ZIP file. It can't solve the problem.

 

Event Viewer show any Explorer error's since you noticed?
I'm sure the answer lies in the registry, but where .... offhand haven't a clue.

The problem still can't be solve.
And I think maybe after you open a zipped folder, all the file automatically extracted to temporary folder which locate at [CURRENT USER NAME]\Local Settings\temp, which LOCAL SETTING is hidden,so, maybe the hidden folder avoid it being access. So, I think have a setting for it, but don't know where??

You'll find your hidden folder's setting by opening Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced Setting's.
Do you have another profile you could log in with and check whether the ability exist's there or not?
*You could alway's create one for this purpose, deleting afterward's.
