Wow! I'll stay with macOS Mojave until this fiasco is fixed. Thanks for the post @mood :)

Why the hell would you drop support for 32bit apps. Another dumb move by Apple, anyone could have predicted these problems.

When you go to the link of the article provided by mood, scroll to the bottom, download the download link. In the download link scroll to the very bottom for easy read of all the apps not compatible.

Never used a Mac. But isn't this enough time for Major vendors to release a compatible app?
"but with Catalina’s official unveiling back in June at WWDC, Apple made the eventual discontinuation official."

They did the same for iOS back in 2017. But I didn't experience any major issue with it.

I've only had one problem so far. My Starry Nights (planetarium) doesn't render correctly. I downloaded that outside of the Apple Store though. Everything else is fine.

I have noticed this trend on Windows, though I have only one recent personal example. A VST/DAW plugin I used for many, many years (iZotope Ozone) dropped support for 32bit a couple of days ago. I had to switch to another plugin as foobar I use it with is 32bit only. This app also comes in a Mac variety.
This is all for what it's worth, but let's see if that trend becomes more common in the very near future on Windows as well.
I also don't quite understand the logic behind this, there's still too many 32bit-only apps.
LMAO at the last comment there :)

Good to know. I'll lose a few games if I switch. I'm just going to wait for a few bug fix updates on Catalina then decide if I'll upgrade since Mojave is flawless for me.

In retrospect I suppose I should have waited. Mojave wasn't a huge upgrade compared to Catalina. Everything seems to be fine though.

Except Simulation Corporation's Starry Night Enthusiast edition. In the picture above you can see dots in the GUI where there should be dates (hours, minutes, seconds). The program is a realistic planetarium simulation.

SkySafari works fine, it's in the Apple Store. But Starry Night 8, which I downloaded from the Simulation Corporation site, has the rendering problem. I'm hoping there will be a patch soon from Simulation Corporation.

Unfortunately contacting Simulation Corporation about this is impossible. It doesn't matter what computer or browser I use, my cookies don't get enabled. I can't sign in or sign up. Maybe my cookies taste bad lol.

What I find surprising about macOS, is that system requirements are much higher than for Windows. Catalina is only compatible with Macs released near the end of 2012 and later and I've heard the next version of macOS will not run on 2012 Macs. In addition to that, the RAM usage is much higher than for Windows.

Two of my laptops are from 2006 and Windows 10 runs really well on them. Not only that, but performance improvements in build 1903 of Windows 10, have made it usable on some old computers, on which previous builds ran too slowly to be usable.

I'd rather fork out the money for a new Mac than go back to Windows.

That's my point, you can't just stop supporting 32-bits apps out of the blue, and AFAIK Windows still supports both 32 and 64 bit apps. I must say that I don't see any difference between the two, but in theory 64 bit apps are supposed to run smoother from what I understood.

Yeah, we knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Now here it is all 64 bit apps. I thought I was going to lose a lot of games with the change. Dev's have been updating their 32 bit games I thought I would lose to 64 bit in the last few days. I only have a few more that need updating.

I'm waiting also for a update on my HP Officejet Pro Printer. The scanner is not supported on macOS Catalina. HP and Apple are working on a fix. I'll wait until they get this all ironed out before the upgrade to Catalina. Maybe Version 10.15.1 or 10.15.2. I'm in no hurry. :)

Apple made the first step of supporting only 64 bit apps and dropping the 32 bit apps. I believe Windows will follow soon, than again I may be wrong.
I have a question: Is it really that hard for the Dev's to change a 32 bit app to a 64 bit app?

It's the next step into the future. Why support an insecure way of making apps, when people are more or less forced to follow your every move? Apple has never given a silt about developers, they care about the users.

And they can do this, because the developers have no choice but to fix their apps if they want them working on MacOS.

Apple have always done things like this.
Ubuntu recently announced doing the same thing which will cause lots of issues and looks like it will cause lots of people to jump ship to a different distro.
I can understand dropping 32bit Operating system due to 4gb ram limit but dropping 32bit app support on 64bit OS is going to far IMHO.

64bit applications use more resources and is that really needed for most applications?

.Microsoft would love to remove legacy features such as smb version 1,internet explorer and 32bit application support but they simply cannot due to enterprise customers using legacy apps.

I have been using 64bit windows since Vista in around 2009. dropping 32bit application support.

Security is important in every application.
