For business your are bound to microsoft

For home it is Android or Microsoft => lazyness of getting used to smartphone OS or business your used at work.

In Neherlands seniorweb only provides courses for Microsoft (and Mac), so for my mother (now 80) Microsoft OS was also the only option (in our town no Mac courses),

I have bad memories of early unix with crazy making caps on/off to enter commands. Offcourse gui interface of latest distro's don't have that issue, but when I tried Ubuntu in 2012 I got compatibility issues with graphics card, sound and wireless. I fixed graphics and was in the process of fixing sound, then I thought, heck the time I am investing in an OS is just to much. For the cheap motherboard I have there is even a Mac-in-Dos hack available, so why was it so difficult on linux

I really like open standards (and open source to some degree), but hardware wise linux is just not as easy to install as MicroSoft.

 

I've been testing Outpost Security Suite Pro 8.1 on a spare PC, and so far it's very good at blocking malware although the detection rate could improve I find Outpost similar to Comodo because the HIPS protection is the best feature against threats.

Re-installed BullGuard Internet Security 2013 with Hitman Pro couple of days ago.
Working absolutely brilliant.

 

For some reason they don't like each other. It asks you to uninstall but when you press ok, it doesn't uninstall anything. I have SD on-demand and 360. I'm not noticing any problems with either.

 

I can confirm this (on XP Pro SP3) and that upon removal of 360 that SD was still working normally.

I don't recall testing shadow mode while I had 360 installed, however, so I can't speak to any potential conflicts while both apps were present on the system.

 

Is G Data any lighter? Everytime I run it, well kind of like a ball and chain. Good protection but little slow.

Some very big companies managed to go Linux... At least for the network and server part.

Well you are particularly unlucky. I wanted to share my experience to point out that I could manage "out of the box" 3 computers (2 laptops and one desktop from different prices, ages and usage) without any hassle and no harware problem. Obviously, you had a completely different experience!
My mom, for example is almost 70, and use her computer for bank account follow up and management, internet, pictures, mails... And Linux ubuntu is quite an achievement as it does everything without any learning curve.

For the security part:
- no problem with administration
- no virus
- no risky download...

 

Business wise also some public/governmental bodies have migrated to linux. Especially hosted services for smaller and midsize companies linux has acquired a substantial market share.

In the past there were security wise good and bad OS-ses. In the near future vendor signing, running without admin rights, running risky apps in sandboxes and downloading from secure stores will be common accross major OS-ses (Windows, Android, iOS), thus reducing the advantage of linux to price only. Rational is not a guarantee for market success.

 

Windows 8 Standard 64 bit Laptop PC:

I just switched from Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2014 to ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 6.X. I have ESET NOD32 Antivirus on my three Desktop PC's and have been please with ESET NOD32 Antivirus. Also, I like having the Scan without Cleaning option.

 

Android is (modified) Linux, thus you'll see mutual benefit. Open-source is an advantage for at least development and privacy, you can't even trust the government with closed source after all.

It's been a while since I last changed my security setup, no plans for anything different yet.

 

I feel secure

+ SBIE Paid = A must
+ Shadow Defender = Masterpiece Software
+ Spybot - S&D = Not necessary for me, but I always install it
+ MBAM Pro = I can't live without it
+ ESS V. 5
- DF (Only for Mac) for PC is a pain

IMHO Spybot - S&D is useless now, so I am looking for an alternative that play nice with my setup

Any suggestions?
