    I backed up my c drive (disk one), a 120 gig hard drive. It has a small FAT partition of 38 megabytes that is labels A drive and the rest is NTFS. When I go to backup, only the NTFS part is checked. Do I check the A drive as well? Is this my floppy somehow (which should be the A drive)o_O

    thx

    Hello radman2020,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Please note that there are two possibilities available:

    - Create an image of the entire hard drive (see screen shot);

    - Create an image of the system partition only (see screen shot as well).

    You should be aware that only the image of the entire hard drive contains MBR. Please read more in Acronis True Image 9.0 User's Guide.

    As for your A partition, I'm afraid that it is unclear from your explanation what is this letter stands for. However, you can always figure out by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management. If you still do not know what the A letter stands for then please make a screen shot of Windows Disk Management showing that A partition and post it here (just attach it your post using Advanced Reply mode).

    Thank you.

    If you had said you are talking about a Dell machine, I would have guessed this is a Dell Utilities EISA partition set up by Dell for diagnostics and such. Myself, I would back up the whole drive if that's what it was.

    Not sure there's any significance to the fact that it labels it as the A: drive.

    Definitely include the FAT partition in every full system backup. It's only 38MB which is trivial. Including it will guarantee that the full system backup can be restored to a brand new hard drive and Windows will boot.

    it is a Dell system. I assume it is that "Dell Utilities EISA partition set up by Dell for diagnostics and such."

    I will back it up along with the rest of C.

    thx.
