I use NOD32 for its flexibility, small footprint and great heuristics. :)

I'm neither a pro nor do I "wannabe" a pro (in any tech field) but I use NOD32 on my main machine that's in the DMZ and the other two machines just use AVG.

Pro may have been a poor choice for a descriptive word. I should have used knowledgeable.

Since we really don't have an objective way to assess knowledge in this case, I tend to view it as users with a reasonable amount of field experience, at least that's how I view myself.

Using the word Pro in your title seems to have set a few people on edge. It's not that we may class ourselves as Pro's, it's more to do with seeming a bit big headed by responding to a thread that asks for comments from "Pro's". I myself view Pro's as the people who actually create the application's themselves. Those people can quite clearly be classed as a 'Pro' in my opinion. I think we class ourslelves as maybe Knowledgeable, experienced, hobbiest or clued-up. This is where i see myself.

    I use.
    KAV 6 realtime.
    NOD32 on-demand.

I believe that a very general way to define "PRO" is someone that has a deeper understanding of a given subject than the population in general and is able to give assistance or tutorials as to the functioning of said subject that would be of a helpful nature based on an advanced experience and knowlegde of said subject.

I replied because I am a network/pc technician. Not sure if that makes me a pro or not. :D

In my IT organization, they refer to someone who knows the ins and outs of a system as a "guru" or "god". They call me that sometimes (technically, I am a senior advisor). :D

Did anyone else notice the numerous NOD32 references in this thread? ;)

Winantivirus Pro - cause i love popups and not only does it Detect Malware, it actually Installs Malware. Kinda like 2 for the price of 1. You know!.:D

I may be mistaken - but I think JerryM was saying that he is one who is not a pro and that he uses KAV.

The real question is "does the pro need antivirus software at all"? :D

I live from PC repairs and I use NOD32 on both of my Win computers with Jetico v1.
Third computer have installed Freespire and my learning machine as well as my test server have Ubuntu.

Any "pro" who does not run any malware at all, no kind of any crap, still may benefit from an AV. Indeed, when browsing "trusted" forums or websites, you have no control at all on the forum/website server's security, and if one has been somehow compromised and is pushing malicious code on client machines, you can be infected.

Sure, you can disable a lot of things to limit the chances of that case happening, such as disabling everything (e.g all scripts), I just wanted to show that "insecurity" is not only based on yourself, but is an equation based on many local and remote factors, not all being controlable. Thus adding an AV to prevent others mistakes cannot be bad.

Anyway, I'm using KAV 6.0 (2 comp) and NOD32 (1 comp) at home.

    Regards,
    gkweb.

Same here - Linux on my main desktop used for all email/web browsing, plus my servers. No need for any AV until the malware writing scumbags start targeting us penguin lovers. That being said, my SGI (IRIX) servers did get hacked back in 1999 so we do need to be very security aware, we just don't need an AV.

Mrs Slider uses KAV on her Windows desktop machine :thumb:

Not a pro, use Avast for 32 and 64 bit. Safe and sound for years of using it.

    Hi btman,
    I use KAV 6.
I also have been using F-Secure on a laptop, but right now am trialing Avira.
I like Avira better than F-Secure, but slightly less than KAV 6. However, at the price I would buy Avira.

Yesterday I removed Avira Workstation, and am now trialing the free version, Avira Classic. I have the heuristics set on medium and have not gotten any FP.

The main reasons I prefer Avira to F-Secure are much faster scanning, and faster loading at start.

    Regards,
    Jerry

I consider myself a "pro" in the sense that I have professionally cleaned computers for the past 2 years (albeit being greatly underpaid as well :p ) and I have used NOD32 for several years before entering this job, it has serviced me to my complete satisfaction throughout.

Not a pro here, unless you consider the ability to turn on a computer being a pro. Well, not quite that bad. I do repair computers and install software.

Two computers here, KAV6 on both and very happy with it.
