WGA and Interactive Mode

This morning when I sat down at my desktop system, I was unable to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to login to the system. I dropped power to the system and let it reboot, and had the same problem -- it simply won't respond to the input.

Fortunately, I have remote desktop configured on this system and was able to connect to it from another computer. Imagine my surprise when I log in remotely and see that ESS is waiting for me to approve or deny Windows Genuine Advantage's connection to the Internet. Approving this allowed me to login locally again.

What I'm not certain of is what caused the lock out -- Windows Genuine Advantage tends toward warning the user that its throwing a fit, and I would imagine any WGA lock-down would likewise lock out remote access. I am not certain of the functionality, but does ESS block certain local keyboard input when its waiting for a response now?

If it is WGA causing the problem, ESS may need to allow WGA by default (even though I agree that's a horrible idea). Failing to do so could result in a computer that can no longer be logged into.

 

Thanks for noting your experience. I'm going to test out enabling remote desktop (by the way, you just mean the ordinary built-in remote desktop right?) because I've had a similar problem twice now. The frequency is around once a month, perhaps in-line with those pesky WGA checks?

 

I'm having this problem at every other reboot now. The remote desktop option no longer works, and I have to drop power to the computer and reboot it just to get it to allow me to log in. About 25% of the time after I'm able to log in, the system hangs again when ESET's GUI loads (stuck at the splash screen, along with Explorer locked to the point that even the taskbar and clock stop working).

Honestly... who do I call to get a partial refund and a downgrade to EAV? I'm through with this, I have had ESS on two systems for a few months and it's never worked all that well on either one of them.
