WG: Right Click function

test.jpg.bmp - no warning message SAME HERE lol
test.jpg.reg - warning message GOOD
test.jpg.vbs - warning message, but only because I added .vbs files to the restricted list. THAT'S NORMAL, YOU MUST ADD THESE TYPES TO LISTS OTHERWISE IT WILL IGNORE and think it's just a normal operation as nothing suspicious in those actions. These are added in case another user [or you] on the PC tries to deliberately/accidentally write a VBS or WHS scripts into your system, or somehow do behind your back. Understand?

OK... the first one jpg/bmp... I get the same result there, never tried that combination before, BUT I *think* I know why.

It's because it's a harmless file type, [the last extension that is] and it's only going to be "viewed" not actually going to 'write' anything into your system. Well that's what I think anyway. Could be wrong LOL.

The second test, yep, that's fine.

As to it not warning on you double clicking trying to open it that way, that's still a mystery.

My reply about VBS.. sorry, slightly off there... You *should* get the warning because I see you still had DOUBLE EXTENSIONS....

I was talking about trying to actually run the VBS file itself, as in just a file named correctly say: tester.vbs.

The warning window there is different... it should be the default warning that it's simply a file you are NOT ALLOWED TO RUN. As in VBS, WHS, JSE, SHS, etc. NOT that it's a "suspicious file" as in double extensions, spaces, bad strings in it, etc.

If you open the main GUI you will see the default warning of a 'blocked' file type action in the centre window. [But you knew that, LOL]

 

Thanks, Tass. BUt I would like to point out that a left mouse click didn't produce any response on any file. I would think that failure is more important than the successes seen using the on-demand right-click feature.

 

Tass, Yes. I failed to mention that the warning I received on the double-extension .vbs file was a different warning message than the one I posted above. As you stated, on that one it did warn (when right-clicked) me I was trying to execute a blocked file type.

 

ABSOLUTELY... Yes.. sorry, but cannot figure out why it's not working when you are simply trying to Left/Double click as any NORMAL operation.

Maybe time to do Uninstall/Reinstall completely but check with Gavin/Jason/Wayne first from DCS.

Tassie - Your not going to believe this (well, maybe you will), but it's working now. I restarted my PC after the install of another app, and now it works when I left-click the files. Must be one of those "Twilight Zone" things.

 

ROFL>......*sigh*.. yeah I can believe that. You know, I almost said have you rebooted as that usually fixes a myriad of problems, but thought, nah, don't be silly... LOL>....

GLAD IT'S WORKING NOW... Phew!!!!!

Interesting thread Theanks for the screenshots.
One could ask "did you reboot after installing?" as that works better with most softwares, even on XP systems
Think the tesdtfiles in the sticky trheads in the TDS forum will have some elements for testing in WormGuard.

 

I've noticed that some installers ask you to reboot, and some don't. If they don't ask, I don't waste the time. I assumed that if it was needed, they would ask.

 

In the years win98 wasd one of the more advanced operating systems it was with every software you needed to reboot after install; maybe developers don't always include it in the final instructions, or it might not popup on XP systems.
Anyway, good that the reboot saved you here.
Hope you can find some use for the testfiles on top in the TDS forum too in this discussion, which files you can edit so WormGuard might block them completely.
