I'm using express vpn on my asus router, all my devices now show up on the firmware update from express vpn. I have cell phone's provider AT&T:

Phone call, AT&T support your ip address has changed 'private goes to public'

This machine search what is my ip address returns vpn ip address no mention of public.

Was told something about protected search, search ip address on iPhone, returns vpn ip address & says public

I remove the vpn & what is my ip address.

Caller has my phone number & physical st address

I ask for AT&T phone number call, & voice mail. I tell that to the caller, oh that's my cell, ask for AT&T number. then type in a 10 digit extension number.

What they wanted to do was change my server "public to private"

If it's a scam I don't know how they would make money.

Also I'm pretty sure AT&T would not make unsolicited call regarding tech calling about security

I only use cell phone's from AT&T & they see vpn IP address. re-test vpn ip & dns check all good, why iPhone thinks it's or says 'public' for the vpn, not sure

I'm like 99.9% sure this was a scam (gave zero info) & hung up.. Presuming it was a scam the goal would be?

I'm on my 10th day of using vpn, new to me

    Thanks

I too believe scam. Some of these calls are so nonsensical that they must exploratory calls. If they get a real pushover (a mark) a real scam call will made in less than a month I'd guess.

@zapjb Thanks! Perhaps they wanted to switch private to public as they saw the vpn IP?

I'd imagine it'd be a totally different & simpler scam if they called back. They just want to see how much garbage a person will swallow.
