On Monday March 9th 2009 at 5:52 CET, ESET released an update of the heuristics module, v1091, together with standard virus signature database update number 3918. An error in the heuristics module caused a malfunction in the Windows operating system by false identifying several system files, including DLLHOST.EXE and MSDTC.EXE, as containing Win32/Kryptik.JX.

Virus signature database update downloads were stopped within ten minutes of release, and the update was reverted to its previous version. Due to this immediate reaction, less than 5% of our users were affected.

Updating to the latest virus definition database (3920 or higher) should automatically restore the affected files from quarantine. If the files are not restored from quarantine by using the update procedure above, or if you are using ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.7, please execute the utility found in the following .zip file to automatically restore incorrectly quarantined files:

    Filename: eset_quar_fix.exe
    MD5 Sum: 9D6CB5C5AAFDAEA539D30179F6401A91

For the latest information and version of this utility, please see the following Knowledgebase article:

We sincerely apologize for any problems caused by this issue.
