My wife is running Vipre AV (got free on the giveaway a while back) and I just removed Win7 Antivirus 2012 but Vipre never did alert on it at all....although I don't know if it did give a popup when it first happened but wife said it never did.

Is Vipre good for rogues like these or should I also install Emisoft AntiMalware as I also purchased this today but was planning on using it later when my NAV expires.

Every AV is going to miss some infections, fake av's are always changing so nothing will provide you full protection from them.

    Hi,

Check out a recent MaximumPC article I quoted:

Your best bet for not getting infected again is to sandbox your browser [IE, Firefox or Opera] and this can be easily achieved by using applications such as Sanboxie or Geswall [both have paid and free editions but the free ones should do the job].

    Regards.

Vipre is very good AV. I think you dont need to ditch it just because of one infection it could not get.

    That just my opinion.

Also, there is also no Guarantee that the EMAM would catch everything too.

I agree with Zyrtec here. There isn't an antivirus that can protect you from all infections on the market right now and arguably never will be. One of the benefits of VIPRE is that you're not alone when you are infected. We have a team of specialists that can assist you with the removal of the virus infection at no cost to you :)

If I'm not mistaken, we're not talking a virus attack here but Malware infection?

I really do not have a lot of faith in any AV when it comes to Malware, regardless of the blurb that accompanies those packages that claim to be prevalent in this area.

I always use a program that's intended for that specific purpose.
First sign of a rogue AV infection I use a specific Anti-Malware program like MBAM and take it from there.
