Does the firewall on TIS 2005 block outgoing attacks? I downloaded spyware doctor and upgraded the def and trend never alerted me at all. Also, I never get a alert from a hacking attempt but get alerts when a wireless network is trying to connect to my computer.

    Hi Simon Phoenix,

I run PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005, and queried Trend Micro about their firewall capabilities and plans for improvement. Their reply was that it was not as advanced like other firewalls such as ZoneAlarm, and only had limited features and functionalities.

I am only sure that this is true for the PC-Cillin built-in firewall, and am not sure this is the same firewall as TIS 2005.

I run ZoneAlarm Free for outbound protection and there is no conflict with the PC-Cillin built-in firewall. Suggest you do the same for outbound protection, or use Sygate's Personal Firewall.

The wireless alerts come from TIS's network Wi-Fi detection component, which is separate from the firewall component.

Trend Micro IS2006 - not IS2005 - does reliably alert for any outbound connection by apps.

It behaves similarly to OPP in learning mode. After installation, any outbound attempt by an app results in a halt, with prompted choice of prevent or create an exception for that app. Users can easily access the exceptions file to make changes.

    Phishing protection seems good.

Spam protection (I use Medium level protection) makes a reasonably accurate assessment of spam content, and simply adds 'spam' to the subject line. For automatic deletion, create a simple subject-line filter in your browser to automaticaly send spam messages to the delete folder, using 'spam' search-word (I'm using Outlook Express).

IS2006 is definitely an improvement over IS2005.

    Hope this helps!
